A deleted Instagram post has possibly revealed Assassin's Creed Valhalla's release date ahead of tomorrow's Ubisoft Forward event. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the upcoming installment in Ubisoft's iconic Assassin's Creed series, this time bringing players to Viking Era Britain and Norway. The game follows the last two releases in the series, Origins and Odyssey, by focusing more on its RPG elements such as dialogue trees, side-quests, and a new combat system compared to the more action-heavy and stealth-focused earlier entries in the series. Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be the first game in the franchise to land on the upcoming consoles, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
While excitement for Assassin's Creed Valhalla is high, particularly as it is one of the biggest titles within the new console generation's launch window, recent incidents have plagued the game's promotion. It was revealed that Assassin's Creed Valhalla won't launch on Steam, fueling the ongoing war of Steam vs. Epic Game Store. The game's Creative Director stepped down after infidelity allegations were made public. Earlier this week saw leaked naval gameplay hit the internet. Now, it seems one of tomorrow's big reveals has slipped out a day early.
On Reddit, pipos666 shared a since-deleted Instagram post on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. The post contains three short videos supposedly from the official Italian Assassin's Creed account. The first video shows November 17th as the release date for the Xbox One. Underneath, it reads "Also coming for Xbox Series X". The other clips show brief moments of gameplay, such as exploring rune stones, along with the hashtag "#LikeAViking", which is evidently part of the game's marketing campaign. Back in May, the Italian Amazon page for the game also seemingly leaked the release date as October 15th, but this new date seems much more credible given that it came from an official social media account.
Some users on Reddit noted that this would put Assassin's Creed Valhalla just two days before the release of highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 after its latest delay, which could hurt Assassin's Creed Valhalla's sales. It is unknown if the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 version will also be available on the 17th, although separating the two Xbox consoles in the first video likely means the next-gen version will come at a later date.
Assassin's Creed is not the only series to get a major leak before Ubisoft Forward, after Far Cry 6 was leaked on the PlayStation Store yesterday. While Ubisoft won't mind too much given the official reveal is only a day away, the frequent occurrence of the leaks might give the company cause for worry. Even more worrying is the high potential for Cyberpunk 2077 to eat into the sales of any games near it on the calendar. In any case, more details about Assassin's Creed Valhalla are expected at tomorrow's Ubisoft Forward event.
