Boardwalk Empire: Every Episode In Season 3, Ranked (According To IMDb)

HBO Original, Boardwalk Empire, is a period drama, which focuses upon telling the story of Enoch Thompson (played by Steve Buscemi), all the while looking at the other mobsters around the United States. The series is critically acclaimed and binge-worthy, to say the least, thanks to the complex and addictive characters.

The second season of Boardwalk Empire saw one of the best characters die a gruesome death at the hands of Nucky and it would be interesting to see how Atlantic City's biggest gangster holds up.

12 "Ging Gang Goolie" (7.7)

The sixth episode of season 3 sees a drastic change of pace. The last episode saw Gyp on edge and this one had no consequences, instead, Nucky traveled to New York to meet a man called Gaston Means. Then, he met Harry Daugherty who wants to save himself by throwing Nucky under the bus. It seems like Nucky is being cornered from everywhere but as always, he comes up with something.

11 "Spaghetti And Coffee" (8.1)

In the second episode of season 3, as expected, Gyp decides to stay near Atlantic City, so nothing, not even the shipments go to the desired place. Eli Thompson is released from prison and Mickey Doyle comes to pick him up, much to the disappointment of the former. Margaret continues to investigate what happened at the hospital, while Chalky White wonders whether a boy named Samuel is good for her girl, Maybelle.

10 "Sunday Best" (8.1)

In the seventh episode of season 3, it's reunion time for almost every character barring Gillian Darmody, who seems to be slipping into depression or worse. Richard and Tommy have dinner over at the Sagorskys, while Nucky and Eli's family meet and bond over dinner.

Gyp goes to New York as he wants aid from Joe Masseria, which he gets, eventually, after he promises to eliminate Rothstein and Nucky.

9 "Bone For Tuna" (8.3)

The third episode of season 3 tells the viewers everything they want to know about Gyp. He takes everything personally, even a good luck wish. Nucky wants to end this war, so he can go back to making money but his one word changes everything and they are back to war again. Elsewhere, Nelson Van Alden is now in Chicago, trying to make an honest living.

8 "You'd Be Surprised" (8.4)

In the fifth episode of season 3, Nucky is rather too interested in Billie Kent, as he seems to be taking a liking to her and her career. Again, it's like he's trying to save her. But he has bigger problems to worry about, especially Gyp, who escapes from a near-death situation after Arnold Rothstein played him and tried to have him killed. This would have set him on edge.

7 "Resolution" (8.5)

In the first episode of season 3, everything's changed after the death of James Darmody as Nucky has returned to the top of Atlantic City, while Margaret Thompson is chasing the dreams of her own. With business going well, Nucky decides to get out of the bootlegging business in order to pursue new opportunities and one mobster, Gyp Rosetti doesn't like that idea. This episode clearly suggests who is going to be the villain this season.

6 "The Milkmaid's Lot" (8.6)

In the ninth episode of season 3, the consequences of what happened in the previous episode are there for the fans to see. Nucky is still reeling from the attack that killed Billie and it seems that he has got a concussion, which means he isn't thinking straight. And while he can't, he decides to have a meeting with every big mobster in the country to discuss Gyp Rosetti but no one is ready to aid him on this one.

5 "Blue Bell Boy" (8.7)

In the fourth episode of season 3, every character is fighting a war. While Al Capone is dealing with his child's nightmares, Charlie Luciano has to negotiate with Joe Masseria, someone he knows rather too well.

Nucky, in the war with Gyp, has to come up with a plan to supply the liquor but he is caught with catching a man called Rowland Smith. Also, at Tabor Heights, a war begins.

4 "The Pony" (8.8)

In the eighth episode of season 3, Nucky tries to reach for the stars and as always, he has a plan, with Means and Esther part of it. He aims to turn on Daugherty and he recognizes the fact that his superiors want the same, so he comes up with a deal too good to pass. Gillian hosts a fake funeral for the man she killed, while a horrendous accident takes place at a restaurant called Babette's.

3 "A Man, A Plan…" (9.1)

In the tenth episode of season 3, Margaret and Owen are planning to run away after the former reveals she is pregnant. But when Nucky comes up with a plan to kill Joe Masseria, Owen is sent away to New York, only to return in a box, cut into pieces. Not only does this drive Margaret mad, Nucky learns the truth about his wife and realizes that he is cornered, with no way out.

2 "Margate Sands" (9.4)

The season 8 finale sees a brilliant season come to a gruesome ending. Gyp, arguably, the series' greatest antagonist dies when Arnold Rothstein jumps to Nucky's help after the former is offered something unimaginable in return. Also, with Gillian on edge, Richard makes sure Tommy gets out of a precarious situation safe, even though he risks his personal life. It's a fitting ending to an incredible season.

1 "Two Imposters" (9.5)

In the penultimate episode of season 3, Nucky is attacked but thanks to Eddie, he makes it out just in time. The one he turns to is Chalky White as he is the only man who he can trust with Atlantic City no longer following his orders. Gyp has taken over and he's not done it with love. When all seemed to be lost, Eli came up with a trump card as Johnny Torrio sent Al Capone and his army to back Nucky against the Italian mad man, that is Gyp.
