We chatted with Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald about the close relationship between her husband, Romain Bonnet, and her ex, Jason Oppenheim. While that dynamic might be strange for some people, Mary assured us that Romain and Jason are totally at ease around one another.
Netflix’s oh-so binge-worthy reality TV show, Selling Sunset is filled with dynamic characters and relationships. The show follows a group of luxe California-based realtors and features a lot of beautiful houses, and even more drama. One of the most entertaining relationships depicted on the show is the friendship between exes Mary Fitzgerald and Jason Oppenheim, especially now that one of them is married. Fans have been able to witness Mary Fitzgerald and Jason Oppenheim 's interesting closeness throughout the series, but things got even more intriguing when Fitzgerald started planning her wedding with French model Romain Bonnet. During season two, Bonnet and Oppenheim’s relationship didn't appear to be the typical ex-boyfriend and new fiancé dynamic. Instead, Oppenheim was in Bonnet’s wedding party, and the celeb real estate broker even offered to hold the ceremony at his house.
Fitzgerald and Oppenheim's “just friends” relationship is unconventional, but it looks like Bonnet is okay with it. Still, when we got the chance to chat with Mary Fitzgerald, we had to ask about the relationship between her husband and boss-turned-best-friend. According to Mary, Oppenheim and Bonnet have always been close. She said, “One of the reasons why we just knew [Romain and I ] were meant for each other was because he fit in so well.” It seems like getting along with Oppenheim wasn't just a perk of Mary's relationship, it was actually a requirement for the couple to move forward.
Mary also added she, Jason, and Romain are so close that they even vacation together. She explained, “Romain is one of the bros and [he and Jason] like to go out together, too. If I can't get ahold of him, I call Jason." The closeness in their relationship also creates a sense of safety for this trio. When the Black Lives Matter protests tore through LA, Mary and Romain spent the night at Jason's to wait out the situation.
It looks like Mary's relationship with Jason hasn't been at all affected by her marriage. But fans will be able to judge this trio for themselves when the new season of Selling Sunset premieres on August 7. We’ve been told that more drama will unfold between not only between Fitzgerald and Oppenheim, but also with the other castmates who work at the brokerage.
