The bombshell announcement that Darth Vader is the father of Luke Skywalker made for one of the biggest reveals in cinematic history in The Empire Strikes Back. But more importantly, it set off a chain of events that would later lead to Luke redeeming his father Return of the Jedi, which gave way to a new era of peace in the galaxy in the Star Wars universe.
However, Marvel Comics has the amazing opportunity to explore the immediate aftermath of the reveal, not just for Luke, but also for Darth Vader himself. And as the official preview for Marvel's Star Wars #5 shows, Vader got revenge for his son's rejection by hunting Luke Skywalker down and killing him. Wait, what?

In the events of Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader was ordered by the Emperor to either turn Luke Skywalker to the dark side of the Force, or kill him. After their duel at Cloud City and Vader's reveal that he was Luke's father, he made his appeal to Luke to join him. Luke refused, and managed to escape Cloud City and out of his father's grasp. As a result, Vader is now on the hunt for his son, obligated to find and kill him as his master commands. For Luke's part, he's been unbalanced lately in the comics series, ever since he learned of his true parentage. When he and fellow Rebels returned to Cloud City, Luke saw a vision of a Jedi woman calling to him through the Force, so he's been traveling alone in search of the mysterious being, hoping to discover his next steps as a Jedi (or if he should even be one at all.)
But the preview for Marvel's Star Wars #5 from writer Charles Soule with art by Jesus Saiz reveals that Vader has found Skywalker--bragging in a bar to other patrons about his heroism in blowing up the Death Star, offering to fly them and their shipments anywhere they want. He's the best pilot in the galaxy, after all. However... he's wearing a visor that covers his eyes, and he calls his astromech droid "RD" instead of "R2," wrongly claiming the little droid ran his targeting computer on his final trench run. There's no question something is amiss with this "Luke Skywalker." All the same, Vader shows up with his trademark brand of discipline. But the full story will be coming when Star Wars#5 hits comic book store shelves. Here's the preview and synopsis for the issue:
