Amazon Prime Video has renewed Hunters for season 2. Following his breakout directorial debut in Get Out, Jordan Peele quickly became attached to a variety of projects. While he focused much of his attention on the 2019 film Us, Peele also began producing several TV shows. His producing efforts included joining forces with Amazon and creator David Weil to bring Hunters to life.
The first season of Hunters was released at the beginning of 2020 and told the story of a diverse group of nazi hunters. The story is set in 1977 New York and followed the Hunters after they discover high-ranking Nazis are living in the United States, who are plotting to create a Fourth Reich. Hunters attracted a talented cast led by Al Pacino, Logan Lerman, and Jerrika Hinton, and the series was mostly well-received upon its release earlier this year. Now, it's been confirmed the story will continue.
Amazon Studios officially announced today that Hunters has been renewed for a second season. The news didn't include any additional details about what season 2 will include, be about, or be released. But, the main cast will return for season 2, with Weil and Nikki Toscano returning as co-showrunners, with Weil saying, "I am more eager than ever to share the next chapter of the Hunters saga with the world." Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, also shared her enthusiasm for Hunters' return.
"With Hunters, David Weil’s bold vision and fearless imagination powered a thrilling, twisty, action-packed first season that engaged Prime Video customers around the world. We are thrilled that David, Jordan and the Hunters will be back with us for more."
The confirmation that Hunters is returning for season 2 will be welcomed news for fans of the show. The first season of the series left some big questions unanswered and included a few twists by the end to set up what will come next. After all, Hunters season 1 concluded with the revelation that Adolf Hitler is alive, and that's just one story point that could be picked up with the second season. If Hunters season 2 is comprised of another ten episodes, there will be plenty of time for Weil and Toscano to unravel the next chapter of this story.
Fans might now be excited to know that Hunters will return, but it could be a while before new episodes begin streaming on Amazon. There is no word on what the status of season 2 is, such as if any of the scripts are written or if a production start date has been set. Unfortunately, Hunters' second season will likely be held up by coronavirus to some degree. With the timing of the renewal and no immediate plans for production to begin, fans might have to wait until late 2021 (at the very least) to see what Hunters season 2 contains.
