The trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Season 5 Battle Pass has dropped, encouraging gamers to get more by spending more. The fifth season for Modern Warfare and Warzone implements new maps, modes, and more to the main game and its free-to-play spinoff. To celebrate, players who participate in Warzone can also play Modern Warfare for free from August 7th to August 12th, though the offer only allows them to participate in five different Modern Warfare multiplayer maps. Usually, Warzone is free-to-play while Modern Warfare requires a purchase to install.
Season 5’s trailer released a couple days ago, showcasing more intensity for Modern Warfare and Warzone. The same day as the trailer’s debut, Infinity Ward production director Paul Haile revealed that the update would be another large download, but would ultimately make Modern Warfare’s overall size smaller. Modern Warfare’s ballooning file size has been a controversial subject since its release in October 2019, though Infinity Ward has taken steps over the last few months to try and remedy that problem.
The trailer for Modern Warfare’s Season 5 Battle Pass was released on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel today, encouraging players to get more by spending more. The video teases new weapons, blueprints, operator skins, gear, Call of Duty points, and XP tokens. The Season 5 Battle Pass features 100 new items for players to unlock and use. In addition, the Call of Duty League is pushing the CDL Champs Pack 2020, with weapons from the pack now appearing in legendary boxes throughout Warzone. It's being teased in anticipation of the Call of Duty League Championship ahead of the playoffs running from August 19th to the 23rd. The final four teams will compete on August 29th and 30th for the inaugural Call of Duty League Championship.
The Battle Pass rewards from Modern Warfare Season 4 were rather lackluster and outright disappointing. If Infinity Ward wishes to reduce the backlash from fans and make this upcoming season’s Battle Pass worth the expense, the rewards need to better match the price tag. It’s not rare for game companies to push more in-game products for extra money, but the items have to justify the price, and gamers aren’t shy about letting studios know when they feel robbed.
While packs such as the CDL Champs Pack 2020 give players some nifty items and equipment, they’re mostly created to advertise competitive tournaments for those skilled and dedicated enough to win. Either way, such purchases can give gamers a slight advantage, but success ultimately boils down to practice, improvement, and skill… assuming players are not winning through exploits.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
