There were some family members who played important roles on the TV show Pretty Little Liars: There were concerned yet usually clueless parents. There were annoying siblings. And there were some surprise relatives, including a few who happened to be A.
All of these characters were wrapped up in the excitement of this teen drama, and the way they handled it all and treated the main characters made them more or less likable and relatable. That being said, here is a ranking of the family members who belonged to Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Emily Fields, Aria Montgomery, and Alison DiLaurentis.
11 CeCe, Alex & Mary
The last place spot goes to CeCe, Alex and Mary Drake. Fans found out that Ali’s mom, Veronica, had a twin sister named Mary, and Mary had three children; first, there was Charlotte DiLaurentis (born Charles Drake), and then there were twins, Spencer Hastings and Alex Drake.
CeCe was revealed to be the first A, Alex took over the game, and Mary was lurking in the background the entire time, keeping secrets and allowing torture and pain to continue.
10 Kenneth & Jessica
While Kenneth and Jessica DiLaurentis were not part of the A-Team, they were not nice people.
Kenneth was not accepting of Charles/Charlotte, and Jessica killed a baby then blamed it on Mary, buried her own daughter alive, and lied to everyone around her.
9 Veronica & Peter
Veronica and Peter Hastings were also tangled up in all of this, as Peter had affairs with both Jessica and Mary (who was pretending to be Jessica), making him the father of Melissa, Jason, Spencer, and Alex. He was never fully trustworthy and did whatever it took to try and keep his secrets buried.
Veronica, unfortunately, was lied to and cheated on, but she was not blameless; the Hastings household was one full of high expectations, tough love, and lies. Veronica’s sins may have been less severe than her husband’s, but she had her mean and deceitful moments.
8 Melissa
And of course, there was the oldest Hastings daughter, Melissa. Like with her mother, there were times when she seemed nice and normal, and Spencer thought the two could actually be bonding. But then, she would do something suspicious and be back at the top of the suspect list.
She also admitted to burying Bethany Young alive, which she did to try and protect Spenc. Melissa may have been coming from a good place some of the time, but she did some shady things and could be down-right rude.
7 Byron
Next on the list are fathers who were not as bad as some of the others/were not involved in the A game… yet they did not seem to be decent humans.
First up is Byron Montgomery. He could be loving and supportive, but he also cheated on his wife, made his daughter lie about it, and got blackmailed by a teenager.
6 Tom
He is followed by Tom Marin, and the main issue with him was that he put his stepdaughter, Kate, over Hanna.
He would only interact with his biological daughter when she was in trouble, and he would side with and show favoritism to Kate over and over.
5 Mike
In the number five spot is Mike Montgomery; he was a friendly, athletic, and fun kid, and he had a good relationship with his sister, Aria. However, he was scarred by what his parents went through and by what happened with Mona.
Therefore, he acted out at times and made some poor decisions. He also did not show up in the time jump forward, to see his parents get remarried, but it can be assumed that he matured and became an even more lovable brother/character.
4 Jason
Another brother was Jason DiLaurentis, and like Mike, he had some issues. But that made total sense, based on the craziness his family had to endure over the years.
When he was on his own and away from them, he was considerate and intriguing… Just ask Aria.
3 Ashley
It is time for the top three family members, beginning with Ashley Marin. She had a great relationship with her daughter, Hanna, as the two could hang out and talk about clothes and also be open, honest, and respectful.
Ashley did make some poor decisions throughout the series, but everything she did was to protect Han; her fierce love was very evident.
2 Pam & Wayne
When it comes to the best relatives on the show, two more contenders were Pam and Wayne Fields. Like Ashley (above) and Ella (surprise… below in the number one spot!), they showed Emily that they cared for her and that she meant the world to them.
However, it should be noted that Wayne was better at conveying all of this, as Pam could be a bit judgmental; it took her a while to warm up to the fact that Em was gay, and she did not handle that discussion very well.
1 Ella
Ella Montgomery was also a caring and devoted mother, and while many people around the Liars seemed to be oblivious to what was really going on, she seemed to always be someone who was concerned and worried and actually proactive.
Ella parented in a wonderful way, too, as she allowed her kids to truly be themselves and would set boundaries when/where they were needed.
