Fun Star Wars and The Batman fan art depicts Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight facing off against Darth Vader and his red lightsaber. Director Matt Reeves released The Batman movie trailer during the DC FanDome virtual event last month, revealing the many adversaries Robert Pattinson will have to face, including Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Colin Farrell as Penguin. Not seen in the trailer, though his voice was present, was Paul Dano's Riddler, who was presented as the main antagonist of the DC movie.
Of course, Darth Vader isn’t one of The Batman's many foes, but the villain of the original Star Wars trilogy is one of the most beloved and well-remembered movie antagonists in history. Depending on how many movies are included in Reeves and Pattinson's Batman franchise, the Dark Knight could potentially face many iconic foes, like the Joker - who's not set to appear in the 2021 DC movie. Still, while licensing rights bar a canon confrontation between the Dark Knight and Darth Vader, new fan art imagines what a cinematic battle between these enemies could look like.
On Instagram, Mizuri posted Star Wars and DC crossover fan art depicting a face-off between Darth Vader and Pattinson’s Batman. While Darth Vader’s face isn’t shown, it is clear by the caption and the lightsaber that Pattinson is facing the Star Wars villain on a rainy night. In fact, the setting is reminiscent of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice posters that featured the titular characters facing off in the rain.
Since there's unlikely to be an actual live-action battle between Pattinson's Batman and Darth Vader, there's plenty of room to debate the question of who would win in a fight. Although Vader has the power of the force on his side, Batman has proven to be a formidable opponent for super-powered beings. For example, in Batman v Superman, Ben Affleck's Dark Knight used Kryptonite and planning to take on Superman. Further, in Justice League: Doom, Batman’s planning bested the League members, including Superman, making it possible for Batman to win against Vader if he had the time to prepare. However, a lightsaber and the force are strong weapons to prepare against and in the art, Batman only has his trusty tool belt.
While a showdown between Darth Vader and Batman won’t be made real anytime soon due to licensing reasons and because they’re from separate universes, these characters are considered top tier in their respective canons. It’s clear from this art that imagining an epic battle between two beloved characters with formidable skills is fun. But since the post is fan art, fans will just have to wait for The Batman and rewatch the original Star Wars trilogy to see the characters in action.
