Survivor has had 40 seasons of iconic and memorable players, but a huge part of this competition show is also alliances. Majority rules, but that never stops castaways from having tight-knit groups. While 'voting blocks' have become a bigger and bigger part of the game, trust still goes a long way on the island.
Of course, lots of players go far with their alliance - and can even end up controlling the entire game. On the other hand, there are alliances that crash and burn with a vengeance. It's time to reflect on the best, and the worst, alliances from the series.
10 Worst: "Nagarote"
This alliance isn't the worst on the list, but it is far from the best. With familiar and lovable players, including legend Joe Anglim, only one of this foursome made it to the final seven - Will Sims II. With Hali Ford and Jenn Brown as well, they all got their torches snuffed.
This alliance took place on Worlds Apart, which while a good season, wasn't exactly made better with this alliance, since, it didn't exactly do great.
9 Best: "Stealth 'R' Us"
This alliance was the birth of Boston Rob's "buddy system". On Redemption Island, this powerful group made it to the final five! With Phillip, Natalie, Andrea, Grant, Ashley, this was a large alliance - and Rob, Phillip, and Natalie made it to the final three.
Not only was it spectacularly entertaining, but they actually controlled the game, and it finally allowed Boston Rob to take home his well-deserved title of Sole Survivor.
8 Worst: "Cool Kids"
The cool kids banded together on Caramoan, including Reynold Toepfer, Allie Pohevits, Eddie Fox, and Hope Driskill. Some probably don't sound familiar, because they were voted out almost immediately, targeted for being a 'clique'.
The two men of this alliance made it pretty far, but it was definitely not in relation to their original alliance that crashed and burned right at the start.
7 Best: "The Witches Coven"
On Cambodia, this season was a second chance for a lot of everyone's favorite players. Ciera Eastin, Kelley Wentworth, Kass McQuillen, and Abi-Maria Gomes are all strong and powerful (and villainous!) women of the game.
Together, fans were absolutely living for their alliance. While it arguably wasn't the most successful alliance on the list, this one still deserves a huge shout-out. Plus, Kelley Wentworth made it to fourth place.
6 Worst: "Zapatera"
Russell Hantz headed this alliance on Redemption Island, adding Krista Klumpp and Stephanie Valencia into the midst. From day one, they were strong, but none of them made it past day 17.
All in all, that means they were all eliminated before the merge - and they were targeted pretty early on. While Russell is a legend of the show, this alliance definitely wasn't his best work.
5 Best: "Aitu Four"
Yul Kwon and Ozzy Lusth might be two of the best, and favorite, players to ever hit the island. On their season together of Cook Islands, they had a strong alliance together, including Sundra and Becky.
These four defied the odds, and won immunity challenges to get themselves to the final four. With Yul and Ozzy in the final, Yul took home the win. Still, these four outlasted, outplayed, and outwitted everyone else.
4 Worst: "Five Guys"
Fans probably remember some of these great players when they appeared - either returning or new - on one of everyone's favorite seasons, Blood vs. Water. This alliance included Brad Culpepper, Caleb Bankston, Hayden Moss, John Cody, and Vytas Baskauskas.
It started on day one, but the alliance crashed and burned without ten days. Brad was voted out in 15th place out of 20 castaways, and the rest of that alliance was buried in history.
3 Best: "The Black Widows"
On Micronesia, on a season of fans vs. favorites, lovers of this show will never forget the iconic and hilarious and intelligent alliance of these women. With Cirie Fields, Amanda Kimmel, Parvati Shallow, Alexis Jones and Natalie Bolton, these women were coming for blood.
They were actually the masterminds behind one of the most iconic moves in the show's history, when Natalie convinced Erik to give her his immunity necklace. It worked, and these women made the final, with Parvati Shallow coming out on top.
2 Worst: "Tri-Force"
This alliance came to be on day one, of Millennials vs. Gen X. Michelle Schubert, Jay Starrett, Figgy Figueroa, and Taylor Stocker let their youth and friendship lead them through the beginning of the game.
Unfortunately, Figgy was voted out on day 18, with Michelle and Taylor eventually following. While Jay has arguably become a popular player, this alliance didn't exactly help him get there.
1 Best: "Cops 'R' Us"
This duo is the smallest alliance on the list, but it's also arguably the most successful to ever hit the beach. Tony Vlachos and Sarah Lacina were both police officers, but otherwise were an unlikely pair.
These two were a secret, but powerful, pair. On every season these two played together, at least one of them came out on top as the Sole Survivor. On Winners at War, their alliance made it to the end - where they battled it out in fire. These two deserve the title of best alliance ever, too.
