Among Us Halloween Costume: How To Make Your Own Space Suit

This article will go over how to easily make an Among Us costume affordably. Most of the crafting items can be purchased from any craft store for under $10 if not already in one's home.

This particular costume is for a red Among Us character wearing a scrambled egg hat. However, the formula is relatively simple if another color or hat is desired. Once all the materials are collected, this should take no longer than an hour to make.

There are a lot of great tutorials for making Among Us costumes, but DIYholic has a simple method that's very cost effective. Below is her video as well as written-out, detailed instructions for those who best learn through visual, audible, and reading methods.

Here are the basic materials, but others may be needed depending on how one choses to customize their Among Us outfit:

  • cardboard
  • medium cardboard box
  • felt
  • mesh plastic canvas sheet
  • black foam sheet
  • masking tape
  • scissors
  • utility knife
  • hot glue gun
  • ruler
  • acrylic paint/paint pens
  • Matching solid sweater, pants, and shoes

For the helmet:

  1. Measure 13"-by-14" on a piece of cardboard, and cut out. Draw some curved edges at the top, and trim off.
  2. Trace the first cardboard cut-out over a second piece and cut out for the front and back of the Among Us character's space helmet.
  3. About 3 inches down from the top of one cardboard piece, measure a 6 inch horizontal line. Measure 3 inches below that and draw an 8 inch line parallel to the top 6 inch line.
  4. Connect the 6 and 8 inch lines by curving the edges, and cut this rounded trapezoid out with a utility knife for the front of the helmet.
  5. Curve both of the cardboard pieces to make two flexible cylindrical halves.
  6. Cut out two 7"-by-9" cardboard pieces for the sides. Curve these, too.
  7. For the top, measure 7"-by-18" on another piece of cardboard. Cut out.
  8. Grab the front cardboard piece with the visor hole, and place it over the mesh canvas. Trace the rounded trapezoid onto the mesh canvas. Leave about an inch border around the canvas, and cut out.
  9. Paint the cut-out canvas leaving a white rounded shape in the middle for the visor's glare.
  10. Trace the mesh visor on a black foam sheet. Cut out. Then cut out the middle leaving about a half inch of foam for the border.
  11. Line up a side piece, the back piece, another side piece, and the front piece. Tape them together along the sides in this order.
  12. Place the colored felt sheet on a flat surface and hot-glue the taped cardboard pieces onto the felt.
  13. Trim the felt leaving about a quarter inch edge around the cardboard. Glue these edges down on the inside of the cardboard, including the visor area.
  14. Repeat this process for the top cardboard piece.
  15. Glue everything together, starting with the sides. Glue down the border of the mesh visor from inside of the helmet, and the foam border along the outside. Glue the top piece on to complete the helmet.

For a very sus Among Us oxygen tank:

  1. Glue the felt around the box.
  2. For the straps, cut out two pieces of felt 3"-by-15."
  3. Fold into thirds length-wise, gluing the sides down, allowing for a thick 1"-by-15" strap.
  4. Make an inch slit near each corner of the box and glue the ends of the straps into these slits to complete the backpack.

For the egg hat:

  1. Layer the two white felt sheets together and sketch a scrambled egg shape.
  2. Cut out and glue the sheets together, leaving a small opening.
  3. Turn it inside out, add stuffing through the opening, and glue shut.
  4. Take the yellow felt sheet for the yolk, fold it in half, trace a circle, and repeat steps 1-3 to stuff it.
  5. Glue the yolk to the egg and attach to the top of the helmet.

After each part of the Among Us Halloween costume is completed, all that's left to do is put everything together. Any solid long-sleeved clothing that matches the color of the felt can work. Fans can feel free to get creative by making a stuffed Among Us pet or other accessory following the hat-stuffing steps. This is a great budget DIY costume that can be made fairly last minute if needed.
