Love & Monsters Clip: Dylan O’Brien Evacuates During A Monster Attack

A new Love and Monsters clip shows Dylan O’Brien preparing to evacuate in the middle of a monster attack. Described as a post-apocalyptic road movie, Love and Monsters is set seven years after the Monsterpocalypse. Joel Dawson (O’Brien) has taken to living underground, along with the rest of humanity, ever since giant creatures conquered the land. Vowing to reconnect with his high school sweetheart Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is located in a coastal colony, Joel embarks on a journey to find her regardless of the terrifying hurdles in his path.

The comedy has been in the works for years. Originally titled Monster Problems, the film has had several release dates. Though it was intended to hit theaters in February 2021, it was announced back in August that Love and Monsters would be made available via video on demand starting in October. As the premiere draws closer, audiences are getting a peek into what the long-awaited project looks like. A new clip, in particular, offers a window into what exactly motivates the lead character of Love and Monsters.

As part of Love and Monsters’ New York Comic-Con panel, a clip was shared that shows Joel hoping to spend a few extra moments with Aimee as a tense evacuation is unfolding all around the couple. Given that Joel’s quest to find Aimee serves as one of the driving forces of Love and Monsters, the preview offers audiences an important glimpse of what Joel’s life was like before the Monsterpocalypse stuck. The clip can be seen at the 20:55 mark in the video below:

While the scene is brief, it clearly demonstrates how important Aimee is to Joel. In the same vein however, while steering clear of spoilers, Henwick and director Michael Matthews elaborated on how Aimee wasn’t merely positioned as a goal for the film’s protagonist to attain. Henwick touched on the fact that Aimee was a fully-developed character, separate and apart from her relationship with Joel. Along with its stunning visuals and sense of humor, Love and Monsters looks primed to explore how relationships can change when faced with obstacles such as time apart and distance.

Though it has taken a long time to reach audiences, having first been reported back in 2012, there is a lot of anticipation surrounding Love and Monsters. The movie marks the first live-action role for O’Brien on the big screen since Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which was released in January 2018. Matthews teased that the character of Joel would allow audiences to see a different kind of performance by the actor, who is well-known for his portrayal of Stiles Stilinski on Teen Wolf. The supporting turns by Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt will also be worth watching for, as the duo spoke quite fondly of their experiences filming in Australia. Fans will get a chance to see for themselves, as Love and Monsters will be available on-demand very soon.
