OnePlus Nord N10 5G Vs. iPhone 12 Mini: Cheaper 5G Phones Compared

Consumers considering a new smartphone purchase now have two appealing options from Apple and OnePlus to consider, the iPhone 12 mini and the Nord N10 5G. In 2020, Apple launched its first ever "mini" iPhone, which is meant to be an economic version of the base iPhone 12, priced at $699. Along with its other 2020 models, OnePlus is looking to make its mark with new additions to its Nord line including the Nord N10 5G. However, which of these two new sleek phones is the better purchase?

OnePlus recently unveiled the Nord N10 5G along with the Nord N100. As the latest members of the Nord family, both new OnePlus phones are designed to be highly affordable options. While U.S. prices have not been revealed for either model, the Nord N10 is priced at £329 in the UK, compared to the £699 UK pricing for the iPhone 12 mini. As a result, the price alone is the first major difference between these two new 5G phones.

While OnePlus is offering new phones at low prices, Apple is hoping it can entice those that haven't jumped on the iPhone ship with its small phone. The iPhone 12 mini comes with an A14 processing chip, a 5.4-inch screen, up to three different storage sizes, and five color options to pick from. With the Nord N10 5G, buyers can expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 chip, a 6.49-inch screen, 128GB storage, and only one color choice. How they stack up with one another is interesting to say the least, especially in terms of performance. While both are ready for 5G, they certainly come with limits that may sway customers in one direction or the other.

Starting with colors, the iPhone 12 mini comes in black, white, green, red, and navy, while the N10 only comes in Midnight Frost. Where the Nord N10 excels is the screen size, as its 6.52-inch display is far larger than the 5.4-inch screen included with the iPhone 12 mini. While the N10's Snapdragon 690 is a brand new chip designed for 5G, graphically-demanding apps and games will tend to be slower, especially compared to the iPhone 12 mini and its A14 chip. However, the mini's power comes at a cost of battery. With only 2,227 mAh capacity, it pales in comparison to The N10's 4,300 mAh. Then again, the mini's A14 chip is likely to be more efficient and make better use of its lesser-capacity battery.

The Nord N10 5G also includes a 90Hz refresh rate, unlike the 60Hz Apple offer with its iPhone 12 series. Another benefit of the Nord N10 is that its single (128GB) storage size is larger than the base storage size (64GB) of the iPhone 12 mini. While shoppers can get an 128GB iPhone 12 mini, it will cost more than the 64GB version. In addition, the Nord N10 comes with the added option of expanding the storage via microSD card. While the base price of a N10 is projected to be more affordable, the iPhone 12 mini is likely to be sold at more retailers. Therefore, it could be easier for consumers to set up an affordable phone plan with an iPhone 12 mini from a mobile carrier, compared to the Nord N10.

These two phones certainly have advantages over one another. Phone owners should consider a OnePlus Nord N10 5G if they want to prioritize price, battery life, screen size, or refresh rate. If phone owners want a phone in a different color, more power, or the choice from a wider selection of mobile retailers, the iPhone 12 mini will be the better bet. Both the Apple iPhone 12 mini and the OnePlus Nord N10 5G offer their own selling points, and are aimed at different sections of the market, despite both being lower-cost options from their respective makers.
