Call Of Duty: Warzone’s terrifying new “Haunting Of Verdansk” event will feature special guest appearances from Leatherface of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise and Jigsaw from the Saw series. Fans uncovered hints of the crossover hidden in Warzone’s data files last week, suggesting that Activision has something special in mind for the players of its free-to-play battle royale FPS during the Halloween season.
All year long, players have been exploring Call Of Duty: Warzone’s fast-paced gameplay and huge multiplayer maps. Extra praise has gone to the title’s novel Gulag mechanic (which traps defeated players in a dungeon until they kill another defeated player to escape) and special finishing moves like the Vampire Bat attack. Now, some new, timed-exclusive content is coming to spice things up, involving two famous killers of the silver screen.
A trailer for Call Of Duty: Warzone’s upcoming "Haunting Of Verdansk" event starts out with a squad of soldiers journeying through a dark forest as one of them soberly narrates about how their mission was “supposed to be a standard op” but soon became “anything but.” Things take a turn for the nightmarish as one unlucky grunt finds himself face-to-face with none other than Leatherface, who quickly gets to work killing him with an ax. From there, the would-be hunters become the hunted as they are stalked by the likes of Leatherface, hordes of skeletal zombies with glowing eyes, and even Jigsaw, who taunts the soldiers with his iconic catchphrase of "do you want to play a game?” before chasing them down in a large truck and attacking one of them with a shotgun. The trailer finally ends with onscreen text reveals that the "Haunting Of Verdansk" event will begin on October 20, as detailed on Call Of Duty.com.
Crossovers in video games are nothing new, and even army-based first-person shooters have started to get in on the special guest filled fun lately. Way back in January, Ghost Recon Breakpoint found itself invaded by an army of T-800 Terminators in an online event, not too long after the notorious killer robot stepped into the arena of Mortal Kombat 11 to match guns with Robocop. Speaking of Mortal Kombat, Leatherface himself once made an appearance in 2015’s Mortal Kombat 10 alongside Friday The 13th’s Jason Voorhees, and both of these famed movie monsters have joined countless others as DLC characters in the multiplayer survival title Dead By Daylight.
The idea of a three-way crossover between Call Of Duty, Saw, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre may seem a bit out of left field, but the Call Of Duty Warzone “Haunting Of Verdansk” event looks to be a great source of creepy Halloween fun. In any case, that last solider (and by extension, players) are going to need to stay on their toes if they want to survive against Jigsaw and Leatherface once “Haunting Of Verdansk” begins on October 20.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
