Star Wars & DC Crossover Art Unites Heroes Against Vader & Darkseid

Gorgeous new Star Wars and DC crossover art unites some of pop culture's most iconic heroes. Star Wars started with the 1977 George Lucas film. Since then, Star Wars has developed into an epic franchise, complete with three film trilogies and multiple spinoffs. DC, on the other hand, is a comic book giant. It's known for its superpowered characters and intricate storylines, as well as its relatively recent transition into live-action movies.

Star Wars crossover comics have occurred in the past. For instance, Mace Windu and Yoda were in a diner with both the Beatles and Buzz Lightyear in Star Wars Tales #7In Uncanny X-Men #155, Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, gets her hands on some cool Shi'ar technology that allows her to switch into different costumes. Kitty goes from the Empress to the Phoenix to Darth Vader, which is a subtle -- yet fun -- nod to the Star Wars comics.

Stunning art by legendary comic artist Alex Ross shows a Star Wars/DC mashup. The image is a nod to the original 1977 "Style A" poster. It shows Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) front and center. Further back, C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and The Flash can be seen running from some advancing Stormtroopers. Green Lantern and Hawkman lead a squadron of X-Wings, all while Darth Vader (David Prowse) and Darkseid loom large in the sky. You can check out Ross' fantastic work below:

It's unclear what Ross' mashup art would have been initially used for. However, one possibility is that the image might have been incorporated in the failed Superman/Star Wars crossover event. The crossover was ultimately scrapped because of budgeting disagreements but would have been nothing short of incredible. With the Man of Steel's abilities of flight, super strength, and heat vision, it would be insane to see how he fares in a fight against Darth Vader. It doesn't seem like this project will be revamped, though, so Ross' art will have to be enough to tide fans over.

While a Star Wars/DC crossover event doesn't seem particularly likely, there are still plenty of cool Star Wars and DC projects to get excited about. For instance, season 2 of The Mandalorian premiered less than a week ago, while Wonder Woman 1984 is set to release later this year. As such, while it doesn't look like the Star Wars gang will be teaming up with DC's heroes anytime soon, Ross' art gives fans a glimpse of what could've been.
