Fans are wondering why Hazel from 90 Day Fiancé can't stop insulting Tarik's "dirty" house. The soon-to-be bride finally arrived in the United States, greeted by her excited fiancé. However, once she arrived at her new home, Hazel's expression revealed a bit of dissatisfaction with her new living conditions.
The drama unfolded on the December 20 episode of 90 Day Fiance, when Hazel Cagalitan saw her American residence. Hubby-to-be Tarik Myers, decked out in a snazzy powder-blue suit, escorted his future wife into his home. Just moments before the reveal, Tarik noted in a confessional with producers that his is an average American house, but was multiple times the size of the dwelling that Hazel lives in with her family back in the Philippines. As he opened the door and escorted her in, Tarik corrected Hazel, telling her this wasn't just his place; it was now hers as well. Hazel looked around, clearly overwhelmed by the size, but underwhelmed by some of the clutter. Rather unexpectedly, she told Tarik she felt the house was dirty. She cited clothes and toys strewn about as indications that the place hadn't been cleaned. Tarik defended the interior, stating that he had cleaned up prior to Hazel's arrival. She even asked Tarik if his expectation was that she would keep the house clean. The drama was just another obstacle centered around the couple's difficult road to marriage. The majority of the episode focused on Tarik's disclosure that Hazel is bisexual, his brief dalliance with another woman named Minty, as well as the rift between him and his controversial brother, Dean.
One Reddit user commented about the uncomfortable reveal. They wrote: "American man not cleaning up before their partner arrives is on my list for 90 day drinking game."
So why was Hazel under the impression that she'd have to keep Tarik's house clean? Well, that's likely due to the disparities between the First World and the Third World. Many women from underdeveloped or foreign nations who embark on relationships with American men are often concerned about their lives once they arrive in the States. Hazel was clearly concerned that Tarik simply wanted her to act as a housekeeper in his house. Not only that, but she was probably a bit intimidated and envious of his home. Hazel is a self-actualized and independent woman. She may have been a little embarrassed about Tarik seeing the poverty of her dwelling and felt she needed to level the playing field by insulting his house.
Regardless of the reasoning behind Hazel dissing Tarik's house, she certainly created a memorable moment on season 8. Tarik was clearly proud of his digs and felt that Hazel would feel grateful and honored to live in his American home. Little did he realize that Hazel doesn't seem to have any qualms about her house back in the Philippines. That modest residence is where she lived with her parents and where she visits with her child. Tarik's hubris about his home being superior to Hazel's was quickly shot down when she appeared less-than-impressed by where she'd be living. Here's hoping that her worst fears don't come true and Tarik hires a housekeeper to fix up the place to Hazel's high standards.
