Baby Yoda, one of Star Wars’ most popular characters, has made an appearance on The Simpsons in a new short from Disney. Animation seems to be one of the last few frontiers that Baby Yoda has yet to conquer, as The Mandalorian standout’s fanbase continues to grow.
Despite the recent revelation that the character’s name is Grogu, the Baby Yoda moniker has continued to stick and is likely to for the foreseeable future. The first season of The Mandalorian introduced the pint-sized fan favorite early on, and since then, it seems as though no one could have predicted just how big he would go on to become. Given that Yoda has consistently been one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars universe, it’s not that surprising to find that a baby version of the powerful Jedi master would be enough to entice fans. However, fans still aren’t sure where Grogu’s storyline is heading and how it will ultimately impact The Mandalorian, as well as the Star Wars franchise. One direction that fans certainly couldn’t have so easily anticipated for Grogu was that he would end up animated on a series as iconic as The Simpsons.
Homer Simpson and Baby Yoda finally meet in a video only explicitly made for Disney's investors. Thanks to @azalben on Twitter, the short produced for Disney’s Investor Day 2020 has been preserved in a few key images. As evidenced below, Homer can be seen carrying Baby Yoda in a backpack with Maggie. The trio appears onscreen together for only a moment. Still, it’s enough for fans of both The Simpsons and The Mandalorian to experience just what it would be like to watch the franchises join forces.
What prompts Homer to carry Baby Yoda in a backpack is entirely understandable for anyone familiar with what is arguably Mr. Simpson’s greatest love: beer. After speaking about some of the great films and programming that Disney+ offers, Homer gets deadly serious, telling viewers that he was promised beer for his participation in the Disney short, and it had yet to arrive. If the beer didn’t come sooner rather than later, Homer promises to leave and take “this guy” with him. This guy, of course, being Baby Yoda.
It wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if many fans of The Mandalorian and The Simpsons want to see more of Baby Yoda on the record-breaking animated series. Over the years, The Simpsons have always been especially adept at getting the most popular celebrities to make a guest appearance on the show. In this case, the timing seems perfect to get Baby Yoda on an episode. While it’s not an impossible concept, it’s probably not likely to happen, considering that both creations come from two very different places.
