Fans Hope GTA 6 Release Isn’t Rushed After Buggy Cyberpunk 2077 Launch

Following the glitchy release of Cyberpunk 2077, Rockstar fans are hoping that the developer takes its time with Grand Theft Auto 6 to avoid a similar fate. Following the landmark success of Grand Theft Auto V, which is held up by many as one of the best video games of all time, and currently holds the title of second best-selling game ever made. It's been seven years since this masterwork hit shelves, though, and Rockstar still hasn't said anything about a successor on the horizon.

Bereft fans have had to turn to other prominent open-world crime games, though, like Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red's dystopian RPG has been dominating the gaming space for eight years now as fans have waited through multiple delays for it to finally release. Now that it's finally out, the verdict has been mixed. While the game got critical acclaim, fans found the game infested with a shocking number of bugs. In an open-world game of this scope, a few minor glitches at launch are understandable. Almost expected, even. But the sheer amount of issues Cyberpunk 2077 players found in their new game is on another level, matched only by the absurdity of some of the issues. One particularly notorious glitch causes the player character's private parts to clip through their clothing, leading them to inadvertently flash every NPC they meet.

Seeing how frightfully glitchy an open-world game can get under the wrong circumstances, fans are re-evaluating their priorities for Grand Theft Auto 6. Reddit user ExoBoots (via Game Rant) thinks that the takeaway from this debacle is clear. Rockstar should take its time working on Grand Theft Auto 6. This sentiment is echoed across the internet. Fans want Rockstar to take as much time as they need to make sure GTA 6 is a more refined experience than Cyberpunk 2077.

This conclusion might surprise some people. After all, Cyberpunk 2077 was in development for eight years, and it was delayed numerous times. Releasing after such a long period with this many issues doesn't seem, at first, to be a compelling reason to advocate for even more time. But the fact is that game development, especially on such a massive scale, is a very difficult and intensive process. CD Projekt Red is notorious for putting its developers under a lot of workplace crunch, and these unreasonable working conditions surely contributed to Cyberpunk 2077's shoddy state upon release. Hopefully Rockstar is taking notes, and is prepared to give its developers more time and better hours to ensure a smoother development process.

That being said, fans have been waiting a very long time for Grand Theft Auto 6. Some have speculated that the recent large-scale expansion coming to GTA Online is one reason the new game's been taking so long, but whatever the reason, it's been seven years without a word. A lot of players are getting impatient, and not everyone will be as willing to give Rockstar breathing room as ExoBoots is. Hopefully, however long Rockstar does end up taking, Grand Theft Auto 6 will satisfy fans more than Cyberpunk 2077 did.
