Sarah Simmons is speaking out against how close her estranged husband is with his mother despite not being as close to his own daughters. The Life After Lockup star spoke exclusively with Screen Rant and shared her thoughts on Michael Simmons being "a little too close" to his mother.
Fans watched the messy end of Sarah and Michael's marriage after they first appeared in season two of Life After Lockup. After meeting and falling in love as teenagers, the two went on to welcome their eldest daughter, Avianha prior to Michael being sent to prison for three years. Sarah was forced into single motherhood but expected a happy life after she and Michael got married during his incarceration. However, upon his release, Sarah Simmons learned Michael had a relationship with another woman who lived in Texas. But, she found out after they had already conceived their second daughter, Gianha. Following multiple attempts at winning him back, Sarah finally decided to move on while Michael continued to pursue other women. Life After Lockup season 4 follows the former couple as Sarah introduces her new boyfriend Malcolm while working on her custody agreement with Michael.
While speaking exclusively with ScreenRant, Sarah shared what her daughters' relationship is like with Michael's family. "I feel like Michael's father - I know you don't see him on the show or anything like that, but his father and I are extremely close," Sarah revealed. "We've always been close. He has always sent gifts for the kids on Christmas, birthdays, and all types of holidays. He's always reached out, and he Facetimes with the girls." She went on to praise Michael's sister for doing an "excellent job" at being an aunt to the girls. However, when it comes to Michael's mother, Sarah spoke candidly about the challenging dynamic they have with each other. "Michael's mother and I - obviously everyone knows there's some things going on there," she admitted. "I personally feel like Michael's mom is a little too close to Michael, as far as behavior and thought process, so I'm a little wary about that."
When it comes to how close her daughters are to their grandmother, Sarah thinks there's room for improvement. "I don't feel as though that relationship on her end is great," she confessed before calling out Michael's mom for not doing enough to be in her grandchildren's lives. "I feel like she should do better, because it's damn sure not my job. I'm doing my job. I'm the kids' mom that takes care of them. Everybody else that wants a relationship with those kids, it's your job." Fans have seen the awkward energy Michael's mom had with Sarah and his ex-girlfriend Megan. But cameras have not dug into Michael's family and their dealings with his children.
He and Sarah continue to try and co-parent their daughters despite him living in Miami while Sarah and the girls live in Upstate New York. Many fans are wondering when Sarah will finally move forward with filing for divorce.
