Mad Max: The 10 Best Weapons In Fury Road, Ranked  | ScreenRant

The 2015 version of the Mad Max franchise, not exactly a sequel, takes the narrative to incredible heights, in terms of both cinematography and subtlety of plot. Interestingly, however, Fury Road deviates from its predecessors in one major factor — the presence and access to a wide range of armaments.

This is because the subsidiary territories of Immortan Joe, namely the Gas Town and Bullet Farm, are responsible for the creation of firearms, ammo, and a variety of bombs. As such, the story incorporates innumerable weapons, from handguns to shotguns to machine guns, but only a few of them are important enough to have been used during the most poignant moments of the story.

10 Glock 17

One of the guns present in Furiosa's War Ring is a Glock 17 (2nd gen), and is used by several people at different points in time: the Imperator, Toast, and Max Rockatansky.

This is the weapon that Furiosa obtains from under the vehicle when Max and Nux find them cooling their engines after the storm, and it becomes part of a complex battle choreography between three characters. The Glock 17 is a pretty basic pistol, but is centered in a highly emotional scene.

9 The Derringer

One of the many, many guns used by the Bullet Farmer is the Derringer, which is first hinted at when he pulls one of its standard-issue bullets out of his mouth.

This is a single-shot version, but it bears resemblance to neither revolver nor pistol. This weapon is one of the smallest in size and used to be carried mostly by women (given the ease of hiding it.)

8 Homemade .50 Caliber Machine Gun

Colin Gibson, the set production designer, refers to the massive machine gun-type weapon used by Rictus Erectus as a "homemade .50 caliber machine gun."

This is a unique firearm, only used by this one character (in fact, it has probably been constructed with his size in mind.) Although to be fair, Rictus Erectus mostly uses it to spray bullets into the air, either in hope of victory or ire after a perceived defeat.

7 Victor Sarasqueta Shotgun

The Victor Sarasqueta Shotgun is Mad Max's personal weapon, first lost when he's abducted by Immortan Joe's minions, and ends up in Nux's hands. After the storm and the consequent "car crash", Max tries to shoot his captor's wrist, so he can be free of their metallic chain, but this doesn't work (and thankfully).

It helps him out later, though, as Furiosa is completely unaware of its dud status, so Max obtains a refreshing drink of water in exchange for his threat.

6 Colt Anaconda

The antagonist, Immortan Joe, has a special affinity for the Colt Anaconda, as observed in the car chase sequences. This one has a .44 Magnum cartridge with a six-inch barrel.

Immortan employs this silver weapon when trying to shoot Furiosa in the War Rig, an idiotic decision considering the fate of his wives if he had succeeded. Thankfully, the pregnant Angharad blocks his view by half-dangling out of a window in between them.

5 Kommando LDP

The Kommando LDP in the film has a stock-less double magazine clamp and is shown in the hands of the Rock Rider Chief (one of the biker villains who control the narrow pass through which Furiosa starts to escape.

It is used when the chief begins shooting at the War Rig, initiating the subsequent chase sequence through the narrow gorge. Sadly for him, Max gets him right before he manages to draw the Kommando LDP a second time.

4 Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW

This pair of guns is displayed as a sign of power by the Bullet Farmer, following the bull's-eye attack on him that leaves him blind. The Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW is a potent weapon, and even more so in the hands of its crazed wielder.

The Bullet Farmer sprays ammo into the heavens in a cinematographic flourish, calling himself the "scales of justice" and the "conductor of the choir of death", and even references the gun itself by screaming "sing, brother Heckler, sing, brother Koch!"

3 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun

The 12 gauge double-barreled shotgun is nothing special, having been around since the 19th century, but the manner in which it is used is absolutely stunning. The ancient Miss Giddy, whose main job is being the custodian of Immortan's "wives", aims it at the terrifying man as he lumbers towards her in utter fury.

She never intends to kill him, though, because he succeeds in disarming her by redirecting the gun towards the roof. The shotgun makes a reappearance with the Vuvalini of the Many Mothers.

2 Type 56 SKS

This is Furiosa's favorite gun (presumably), considering the number of times she employs it in the course of the journey. First, it is utilized in order to effortlessly kill the pursuing Rock Riders as well as an Imperator, but its real specialty is shown later.

With the help of a scope, Furiosa makes the SKS a beautiful sniper rifle, taking out both Imperators as well as the Bullet Farmer's car headlamp. This scene is all the more impressive because Max fails to perform the latter deed after two attempts, but she is victorious with just one.

1 Electric Guitar Flamethrower

Obviously, the best weapon in Mad Max: Fury Road is the magnificent Electric Guitar Flamethrower brandished by the Doof Warrior (a fan-favorite franchise character.) Its main job is playing driving music for Immortan Joe's battalion, but the flamethrower attached to it was supposedly real.

The Doof Warrior doesn't use its capabilities much, though, except for some rather spectacular effects in sync with his raucous performance. And it just looks so epic!
