In the conversation of the best TV shows ever made, it's only a matter of time before Mad Men rears its much-welcome head. The show is easily one of the greatest odes to America in the 60s and presents a rather unique point-of-view that is definitely quite interesting indeed. Don Draper is easily one of the best and most intriguing protagonists of all time, with the connections he makes throughout his life playing a major role in the development of this character.
One such example of a person who was heavily impacted by the presence of Don in her life was Megan Draper, Don's second ex-wife who — for all intents and purposes — was actually a pretty great and understanding character who endeared herself to fans in no time and never really displayed any negatives sides as a character. That being said, not everything is iron-clad about this character — there are still various aspects of her character and behavior that don't really make any sense in the grand scheme of things.
10 She Should've Never Trusted Her Mother With Taking Her Stuff From Don
Megan's mother is quite a character indeed, but an entertaining one nonetheless. The weird craziness of Marie Calvet and the tryst she formed with Roger Sterling is surprisingly engrossing to watch, and quite indicative of how unhinged she can get at times.
So, it's only a given that her daughter should've been the first person to realize what kind of a person she really is. This is precisely what makes Megan's act to trust her mother with packing up her stuff from Don's place rather weird.
9 Her Relationship With Don Wasn't Really Strong Enough To Warrant A Marriage
Megan and Don's marriage didn't really end on a high, but this was only expected given the amount of time they both really spent together before Don popped the question.
It's true that both characters were quite compatible, but Don had already stated that he didn't like to get involved with people from work and Megan hadn't really opened up to Don emotionally before the engagement. Both people just dove into this commitment headfirst, and the end result was ultimately disastrous.
8 In A Way, Don Had Found A Great Wife And Should've Never Cheated On Her
That being said, there's no denying the fact that Megan was a great character who certainly understood Don and gave him his space whenever required. She was almost perfect for Don... but he was ultimately too broken as a character to really connect to her.
His infatuation with his neighbor ultimately led to Don losing any interest in Megan, and their marriage quickly took a turn for the worse over time.
7 Don's Anger Towards Her Is Quite Unjustified At Times
Don should definitely be blamed for being the catalyst that triggered the end of the marriage. Aside from his disregard for Megan's emotions, he also never really appreciated the good things about her. The surprise birthday party that she threw for him is a great example of this.
While it's true that Don wasn't a huge fan of parties, the fact of the matter is that Megan was still trying to do a good thing for him and only had his joy in the back of her mind. For Don to react so negatively to such a warm gesture and basically gaslight Megan into believing that what she did was wrong is quite horrible on his end.
6 She Should've Picked Up On His Infidelity A While Back
However, Megan should've also realized the true nature of the man she was married to, especially after he clearly lost all his romantic feelings for her.
Perhaps it was her blind trust in her husband that ultimately led to her being completely curious about Don's infidelity — that too with their next-door-neighbor, no less.
5 Don Really Didn't Have A Reason To Not Stay With Her In California
After being pretty much forced into a leave-of-absence from his job by the partners of the firm, Don should've ideally stayed with Megan in order to keep their marriage alive and make it seem like he was actually putting in some effort.
However, at the end of the day, Don Draper is an enigma molded by the trauma of his past, and he preferred wallowing in his own misery as opposed to sharing both the highs and lows of life with his better half.
4 She Shouldn't Have Quit From Her Job On A Whim
Unfortunately, Megan is not entirely absolved from the blame for her wrecked marriage — she should've realized just how volatile Don really was and not leave a well-paying job on a whim.
After leaving the show that she had been such a constant part of, Megan's career ultimately stagnated — after all, acting is no easy job, and taking this major risk without giving it a second thought isn't a great move.
3 It's Weird To Think That She Couldn't Secure A Job In Los Angeles
California is supposed to be the land where actors either make or break it, and while it's very much possible that some people just get the short end of the stick, that's not to say that Megan hadn't already established herself in her career already.
So, the idea that she didn't manage to secure a job with her talents is quite hard to swallow. Perhaps her career could've had a better trajectory if she had the support of her husband... but that's awfully speculative.
2 Harry Crane Trying To Proposition Her Was Just Stupid
Harry Crane is quite a mixed bag as a character. On one hand, his presence definitely freshens things up in Mad Men. On the other hand, he's a complete sleazeball with absolutely no respect for people around him.
The fact that he shamelessly propositioned Megan without so much as a second thought speaks volumes when it comes to the depravity of this character.
1 Don Should've Heavily Reprimanded Harry For His Comments On Megan
In an ideal situation, Harry's derogatory comments on Megan should've caused a chain reaction that ended with Don putting Harry in his place.
Instead, Harry gets off scot-free after this blatant attempt to manipulate Don's ex-wife, which is quite a sad turn of events indeed.
