The 13 contestants shared their thoughts on the first episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13, premiering later this week. The drag queens used “gag-worthy,” “most exciting,” and “bloodbath” to describe episode one.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that RuPaul’s Drag Race was returning to production and the 13th season would debut at the beginning of 2021. Drag Race was one of the first major television series to return to production amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the contagiousness of the illness, extra precautions were taken on the set of Drag Race. Viewers can expect to see aspects of the safety protocols in the new season, including an expanded judge panel with glass dividers. Check out what the contestants had to say about the first episode coming to viewers everywhere on Friday.
This season, contestants competing on RuPaul’s Drag Race had to endure an international crisis, coronavirus safety protocols, and changed lip sync challenges during the competition. “When you ask someone, ‘What is your favorite season of Drag Race?’ They always go back to season 6. And, ‘What’s your favorite top three?’ Bianca, Courtney, and Adore,” Kandy Muse, one of the 13 competitors, told ET. “Season 13 is right up there with season 6. Not just because I was there and I experienced it, but seeing the magic happening, seeing the gag-worthy s**t that was happening? It’s the facelift that Drag Race needed.” She added, “All right, girls. Hi, we’re here. Six lip syncs?” Olivia Lux contributed that many people watch the reality show for the lip sync battles. “To have six off the bat is absolutely wild. You get to see everybody in their element performing before you see anything else from them in the season.”
Other drag queens in the 13th season commented on the first episode, too. “No other season has had such a twist so soon,” Tina Burner stated. “It was crazy, too, seeing all the judges. You just don’t expect that,” Elliott with 2 Ts added. One of the contestants kept things short. “It’s a bloodbath,” Kahmora Hall chimed in. Denali, another one of the competitors, said, “In my opinion, it’s probably the most exciting first episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race ever.”
Based on what the drag queens are saying, it looks like viewers are in for a treat when RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 premiers on January 1. Tamisha Iman forecasted the first episode for us with this quote: “I was not ready. I was physically not ready.”
