The Mandalorian: 10 Unpopular Opinions (According To Twitter)

The Mandalorian is without a doubt one of the biggest shows on television right now, and the Disney Investor Day reveal of ten new Star Wars shows to come solidified the truth of the statement that it was responsible for "bringing back" its time-honored franchise.

It has a major following for good reason, and now, by including fan-favorite characters from prior Star Wars media in its canon, it's truly reinvigorated followers of the franchise. But, that's not to say that it doesn't have some contentious points, and, during the lead-up to the season premiere, fans were all too ready to share their "unpopular opinions" with Twitter.

10 Mayfeld Should Have Stayed With The Team

Played by Bill Burr, a comedian notoriously critical of the Star Wars franchise, mercenary Migs Mayfeld was certainly an entertaining character, even if the Internet couldn't decide how to feel about him (he dropped Grogu!).

While he gets captured in his first and only season one appearance, he briefly returned in "Chapter 15: The Believer" to help lead the team to an Imperial remnant, after which they set him free. @Pasdrole_yas, for one, wishes that he'd stayed with them.

9 Boba Fett's New Armor Looks Fantastic

Boba Fett is one of Star Wars' most recognizable characters, but that wouldn't be true without his distinctive Mandalorian armor. However, that suit of armor seems to have gotten a new paint job between Fett's appearance in Return of The Jedi and his appearance in The Mandalorian.

Not everyone was happy with this change: arguments against it included that Fett's armor is less iconic than before, thus giving the character less individuality, and that the refurbished armor doesn't give Fett the "gritty" appearance that he had in the original trilogy. However, @sandcrawlerblog disagrees with that assertion, tweeting that the touch-up looked "fantastic" and that it gave Boba Fett "the high quality looking armor [he] deserved."

8 Grogu Is Carrying The Series

Most fans of The Mandalorian love Grogu—unless they still prefer to call him "Baby Yoda." But, they also love other facets of the series; the locations, the characters, the action, et cetera. While @thinkmickeyblog can agree that those things are "decent," their unpopular opinion is that "without Grogu [the show] would have never gotten off the ground."

7 Chapter 13 Was Amazing … But Also Season 2's Worst Episode

"Chapter 13: The Jedi" was a polarizing episode for fans; a viewer's enjoyment of the episode usually correlated with how OK they were with the reveal of live-action Ahsoka Tano.

@MeAndMyPadawan, for instance, argues that Chapter 13 was an "amazing" episode, but it was still "the worst episode of the season." To them, this is a "testament to [the show's] quality" more than anything else.

6 It's The Best Thing To Come Out Of Star Wars

No one can argue with the fact that the Star Wars series is one of the most famous, most influential media franchises ever—but, apparently, some can argue that it's only just hit its peak. @scoresbyss tweeted that "The Mandalorian is the best thing Star Wars has ever done," a "close second" to Revenge of the Sith. True, The Mandalorian has won a lot of fans, but few would go that far in their praise for the series.

5 Cara Dune Is A Two-Dimensional Character

Cara Dune, Mando's aggressive and battle-ready traveling companion, has been fairly well-received by fans of the The Mandalorian and repeatedly recognized as one of its best characters.

It's true that Jon Favreau wrote the part for actress Gina Carano specifically, and this has led to some viewers having trouble liking the character given the actress' history of controversial statements, but that's not the reason for @kestisvanth's criticism of Dune. Rather, it's that, in their opinion, she just doesn't have as much substance as the series' other characters.

4 The Mandalorian's Theme Is Underrated

The Mandalorian's music isn't really something that has fostered a lot of debate; it's certainly impressive, but there aren't a lot of people who would describe it as particularly innovative. Still, Twitter user @2MuchGravy thinks that Ludwig Göransson's "The Mandalorian" theme is just as good as, "if not better than," the Star Wars title theme. Check it out and decide for yourself.

3 The Guest Characters Made Season 2 Worse

The Mandalorian season 2 brought back a slew of old characters, culminating in the return of one Luke Skywalker himself. Many fans liked seeing familiar faces in the series, even those who noted that the fan service was part of Disney's attempt to do the same thing for the Star Wars shared universe that they did for Marvel.

@OmnibusVs, however, offers the hot take that bringing back the characters didn't really serve any purpose, tweeting that "[Ahsoka] shows up once, hints towards … a plotline in a different show, and leaves," and that it made them like season two less than season one.

2 Rian Johnson Should Direct An Episode

Rian Johnson is a polarizing figure in the entertainment world, to say the least, and, with his trilogy likely being scrapped by Disney, it's unlikely he'll plot a return to the Star Wars franchise—just as unlikely as it is that a majority of the series' fans would want him to.

If that's the case, then @LafitteAnchor's opinion that "[he] should direct an episode of The Mandalorian" is just as unpopular as they say it is. It's not entirely out of the question: Johnson did direct one of Breaking Bad's most critically-acclaimed episodes, "Ozymandias", and he's already expressed interest in directing an episode of The Mandalorian, but it would likely throw a lot of fans off the series.

1 It's Better Sci-Fi Than Anything From The Last Two Decades

Forget best Star Wars content, @carondelet will defend "to [their] last breath" that The Mandalorian is the "best science fiction to have graced us in the last twenty years or more"—although, to be fair, the original trilogy did come out longer ago than that. It goes without saying that the last two decades have brought with them some truly incredible sci-fi—but, to each their own.

Also interesting is @jjponcevazquez's slightly-less-unpopular opinion that The Mandalorian is the best Western of the past twenty years. That one might have some validity to it.
