The Voice: Why Fans Are Upset That Eight Contestants Left At Once

The live playoff rounds on The Voice season 19 kicked off this week, and the fans are upset by this very crazy start. Before any performances even took place, host Carson Daly announced that Ryan Gallagher from Team Kelly "dropped out" of the competition and would not be seen in the four-way knockout. While this shock disappearance did upset some viewers, it seems that fans of the show were quickly angered by something else.

During the results show of The Voice that aired on Tuesday, December 1, the group of singers went down from 17 to just nine contestants in the span of one night. This is due to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the number of live shows down to three in order to make sure that the season ended before the holidays and in the normal timeframe. Despite the reduced number of live shows, the eight-way elimination left viewers very upset.

Multiple contestants have gone home in one night during previous seasons of The Voice, but it is very rare to see eight contestants leave the competition. The only other time that the artists have dropped from 17 to nine was last season, when production had to quickly shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, this eight-way elimination left many fans upset about some of the contestants that were sent home. According to many viewers, "mediocre country singers" were making it through to the next round over some artists that they believe should have remained in the competition. Take a look at what some viewers had to say below.

It seems that many The Voice fans are adamant about the fact that country artists always do well on the show, even at the cost of phenomenal singers from other genres going home. There have been times when non-country artists have won the competition, but it is true that country artists generally come out on top throughout the history of the show. Out of 19 seasons, Blake Shelton has been the winning coach a total of seven times.

Despite this season of The Voice ending in just two short weeks, it is possible that a non-country artist could take home the grand prize. At this point, it seems like that is what fans are hoping for this season. With that said, with nine contestants dropping down to five in the semi-finals, only time will tell who will win it all.
