The hit television show Virgin River surprised so many avid television fans. The series, based on the books by Robyn Carr, came out of nowhere and garnished a huge following. Those who love a good Hallmark Channel movie could not get enough of the sweet series and were hooked after the initial season. When the second season dropped, it took no time at all for fans to binge it. The second season did not disappoint, so many more dramatic elements were added to the storylines.
While the Netflix hit was highly entertaining, it left viewers with so many questions and wanting so much more. While official news of a third season coming our way has yet to break (don't even think of canceling this one universe,) season two's cliffhanger makes fans think it will definitely happen! Yes, we will have to wait for the third installment, but it's going to be lit when it airs. Here is what we know so far about the possible third season.
10 No Official Renewal...Yet
Nothing is set in stone as of now pertaining to season three of this show. Season two was picked up less than two weeks after season one aired, so perhaps an announcement is coming in the next few days or weeks.
That said, the cliffhanger at the end of the second season left most believing that a third installment was inevitable. It seems impossible to leave a series hanging in the balance like that.
9 There May Be Emphasis On A New Couple
For the first two seasons, the romantic emphasis was placed upon broody Jack and wayward Mel. While these two characters are most definitely the main ones, other supporting figures are heating up, and season three will likely see another romance grow wings and take flight.
Young Lizzie and Ricky are an item, and season three may share more of their story. The books contain more compelling story arcs pertaining to Ricky, so expect to see this couple go through it in season three.
8 New Cast Members?
Season one gave fans their main characters, and they are still around, figuring out life and love in the quiet woodsy town of Virgin River. Season two brought us a few more compelling characters, especially Sarah, who becomes hot and heavy with Ricky in the latest installment.
Knowing that seasons one and two brought new players into the mix, we would expect season three to do the same. Viewers are especially looking forward to meeting Jack and Charmaine's twins!
7 Diagnosis Revealed
Doc and Hope have finally found their way back to love, all to have things thrown into chaos. In the finale of season two, Doc tries to tell Hope about his doctor's appointment, but things get pushed to the side with the surprise engagement party.
While fans have yet to get confirmation on the third season of VR, they would expect that Doc's mystery diagnosis will work its way into any future seasons.
6 Preacher Makes A Big Decision
Preacher is a supporting character that deserves something good in the third possible season. He clearly has a thing for a fellow VR resident, but will his feelings be enough to sway his big decisions come season number three? He has an opportunity to leave the small-town life behind and really test his culinary skills out in the big city.
San Francisco might be a good change of pace for Preacher, but leaving Michelle behind? Viewers won't be able to handle the heartbreak of that. Maybe he will save her in season three. Plenty of people want to see these two, along with her son Christopher, end up together.
5 A Possible Air Date?
If season three gets picked up by a network, fans will immediately want to know when it will air. It seems like an eternity to have to wait to see what happens with those favorite characters, especially with so many unanswered questions left up in the air. Season one and two both aired within a year of each other because the filming of the second season started almost immediately following the first.
This means that we could have season three before 365 days are up, but with the current pandemic raging on, it might take more time to see what happens to Doc, Mel, Jack, and the residents of Virgin River.
4 Is Season 3 Already Filming?
No official word has been released on season three, but many believe it has secretly been picked up and already in the filming stages!
According to What's On Netflix, season three started filming back in August and was expected to continue production until mid-December. Everyone who became hooked on the first two seasons certainly hopes that this tidbit is true.
3 Returning Favorites
Speculators believe that new cast members will be introduced into the third season, as they were in the second season, but what about their favorites? Alexandria Breckenridge will likely return to reprise her role as Mel, and Hope and Doc should be back to let us know what happened when Doc went to the doctor's office.
As for Jack? His fate is currently hanging in the balance. After season two's explosive ending, it is possible that Jack recovers and continues, and things may go in a completely different direction. If he doesn't pull through, it wouldn't be the first time a popular show lost its main character.
2 How Many Episodes Will Fans Get?
Again, the number of episodes will depend on if a third season gets confirmed at all, but fans will likely get a similar count as the first two seasons.
Both season one and season two contained ten episodes each. While viewers never felt that it was nearly enough, it may have to do for season three. There is a likely chance that a third season will contain at least ten episodes like its predecessors. Fingers crossed, there are a few extras.
1 Season Three Sees A Time Jump
Showrunner Sue Tenney told TVLine that fans can expect a time-hop in the third season. This would be an exciting twist compared to the last two seasons for sure! Just how big of a time-hop will viewers experience?
That remains to be seen. It could be months, or it could be years. Tenny also hinted that the mystery of who injured Jack would span several episodes. Lots of big events will unfold in season three, and many questions get answered.
