Zack Snyder Reveals Justice League Music From Junkie XL’s Score

Zack Snyder previews JunkieXL's score for Justice League. The filmmaker has been given the unique opportunity to finish his intended plan for the DCEU film, which includes using the original score for the project before Danny Elfman stepped in and made some changes.

Shortly after Justice League hit theaters in 2017, it became clear that the final version of the movie was significantly different from Snyder's plans. Interim director Joss Whedon didn't simply finish the cut of the project that his predecessor worked on but couldn't see all the way through, he made some drastic changes to it. Full characters arcs were cut and certain other elements were altered—including its score. That's why, when fans began the Release the Snyder Cut movement, its supporters called on Warner Bros. to restore Snyder's work before Whedon's involvement, complete with Junkie XL's intended score.

Now that Snyder has been granted the opportunity to finish his Justice League which would release on HBO Max, it's expected that he's also using JunkieXL's music on the project. As its release nears, the director teases what can be expected from the score while speaking with TheFilmJunkee on YouTube. Listen to it below:

Before Snyder even got the go-ahead to finish his Justice League, he had been vocal about what elements from his story plan was cut from the theatrical cut. Given this, his loyal supporter has a pretty good idea with what they've missed, but thanks to the additional funding for the HBO Max mini-series, he's also able to add certain elements to this version, which further excites his fans. The snippet of JunkieXL's theme gives off a darker vibe, which tracks with what's been revealed about the upcoming Justice League iteration thus far.  Admittedly, Snyder's DCEU project being too dark has been one of the contentious elements of his movies, with the public split on what to think about it. But without being beholden to anything, Snyder can fully realize the vision he wants for this project. More recently, he even floated the idea that he expects this new Justice League to be Rated R and, assuming that this is the case, this score fits that vibe well with its rocker feel.

It's worth noting that Elfman is no stranger when it comes to working on DC properties since he previously composed themes for BatmanBatman Returns, and the main music for Batman: The Animated Series. So while there's a clamor to hear JunkieXL's work on Justice League, it's not exactly a personal dig at the veteran composer. Instead, it's more of the fans wanting to see Snyder's full vision for the movie, including the score he picked for it.
