Every Credit Zack Snyder is Getting For Army of the Dead

Netflix's Army of the Dead is the latest directorial effort from Zack Snyder, but he also wore quite a few other hats on the big-budget film. Snyder occupies a weird place in the pantheon of A-list film directors. His films have collectively made over $3 billion worldwide, but he regularly splits audience and critical opinion. He's got a legion of hardcore fans, but also a number of detractors that declare his work overrated.

Whatever side of that divide one falls on though, one thing's for certain: the release of a new Zack Snyder movie is an event worth discussing. That was definitely the case with the recent HBO Max debut of Zack Snyder's Justice League, more commonly referred to as the Snyder Cut. As usual for Snyder, not everyone loved his new cut, but most at least did agree it was better than Joss Whedon's theatrical version.

Snyder's eventful 2021 will continue next month, when Army of the Dead drops on Netflix on May 21. It may not be more of the fan-dubbed DC Snyderverse, but it will call back to the beginnings of Snyder's career, his first film as a director being 2004's Dawn of the Dead remake. That remake surprised just about everyone with how good it was, and Army of the Dead may well end up being another surprise hit. If it is, Snyder will certainly deserve much of the praise, as he did no less than six credited jobs on the upcoming heist movie with zombies.

Zack Snyder's first and most important credit on Army of the Dead is of course director, meaning he was the man in charge of the film all the way from pre through post-production. Snyder's second credit is actually a fairly unusual one for him, as he's one of three credited writers on Army of the Dead, alongside Shay Hatten and Joby Harold. The only other movies Snyder's directed that he's received a screenplay credit on are 300 and Sucker Punch. He's also credited with coming up with the story for Army of the Dead, a credit he also received on Sucker Punch and both versions of Justice League.

Snyder's fourth credit on Army of the Dead is that of producer, which he's actually only received for one other of his prior films, that being Sucker Punch. He's held producer (or executive producer) credits on a few DCEU films he didn't direct though, including Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman 1984. Snyder's fifth Army of the Dead credit is a surprising one, as he's also the credited cinematographer, a role he's never held on a feature film before. It's a bit unusual for directors to be their own DPs, but not unheard of. Snyder is also credited as the B-camera operator on Army of the Dead. Two potential bonus roles Snyder may also perform on Army of the Dead are small cameos he likes to sneak in for himself in most of his other movies, those being a closeup of his hand being used in an insert shot, and his voice being heard from offscreen.
