Julia Trubkina and Brandon Gibbs' argument on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? over his friend, Melanie, has been called out for being fake by Reddit fans. After showing her judgemental side on the 90 Day Fiancé season eight Tell-All, Julia has been sliding down the popularity scale in the spin-off as well. Apart from threatening to leave Brandon when she gets her green card, Julia has exposed a very Natalie Mordovtseva-esque jealous streak that wasn’t visible during the previous season. Now, a scene on episode five showing Julia storming out of a bar after being insulted by Melanie has raised several red flags about the jealousy act being fake.
The newly crowned villain Julia has been facing backlash for her negative comments about women on her new season. Julia has described women as not being trustworthy and foxy, claiming they could steal her man Brandon away from her. Episode four had Brandon asking Julia to make new friends. He suggested his school-friend, Melanie, who he claimed he never dated. Although reluctant, Julia went along to the double date with Melanie and her boyfriend T.J. because her future wedding planner job requires her to meet “new people.”
During her confessional, 90 Day Fiancé star Julia voiced that the man with Melanie was her “boyfriend, not husband” and that Melanie dressed up and did her hair for Brandon. Melanie and Brandon bonded over beer, raiding his parents’ liquor closet, and watching scary movies, which ticked Julia off. However, Melanie also had a few tricks up her sleeve when she called Julia “bossy," before asking her the classic question – if she was in the relationship for a green card. The inquiry led to Julia storming out in frustration. However, some Reddit fans weren’t really convinced of the authenticity of this Brandon-Julia scene.
When one Reddit posted about something being wrong because Brandon didn't defend wife Julia during the rude interrogation, 90 Day Fiancé fans in the comments said the scene was staged. “Scripted,” said one fan cooly, as another one added, “That just couldn't have been real. Like I just don't believe that this girl just decided to ask Brandon if it was a sham marriage on TV in front of Julia.” A different fan concluded that Melanie was “100% coached by the producers to attack Julia” and someone else wondered if Brandon and Melanie had even been in touch in recent years.
Meanwhile, after 90 Day Fiancé shared a clip of the interaction on Twitter, another group of suspicious fans observed how the show used to be more genuine in its earlier seasons. But in the past few years, it has come across as ridiculously staged. A TLC viewer @kalpersk commented, “This! I know 'reality' has it’s deceptive editing techniques but this show now is just contriving everything and it’s cr*p from how it was in the early years - multiple cast members from last season confirmed this.” Brandon and Julia, along with his mother Betty Gibbs, have previously been called out for faking their storyline, including the pregnancy scare from 90 Day Fiancé season eight. However, fans like @christinadjb are also making light of the situation by joking about how the fries left uneaten on their table is the biggest proof of the scene being fake.
90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? airs Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
