Suicide Squad: The Main Characters Ranked By Power & Influence

The DCEU's first Suicide Squad movie featured a wide variety of some of DC's best and darkest villains in its roster. There are some that are very powerful and influential while others are more comic relief or side characters with very little clout in the events of the plot.

From Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang to Joker and Amanda Waller, here are the main characters of the movie, ranked by their power and influence. Their power is weighed up by their physical abilities and their influence is determined by how much sway they hold over the other characters within the story.

10 Captain Boomerang

Captain Boomerang isn't really liked or trusted by anyone during the entire movie and for good reason. He's introduced as someone who's willing to betray their own partner and the only other member of the squad who really listens to him is Slipknot, who Captain Boomerang convinces to attempt a half-baked escape, leading to their sudden death.

At the end of the story, Boomerang seems by far the worse off of the remaining squad and is left alone in a cell for making the mistake of trying to stare down Amanda Waller while every other member appears to have negotiated a slightly better deal.

9 Harley Quinn

Whilst arguably the most influential of the characters featured in the movie in terms of popular culture–even debatably topping her partner in crime, The Joker, in modern times–and above and beyond the most successful thing to come out of the movie, Harley Quinn doesn't hold much power or influence within the DCEU itself at this point.

Leverage is a running theme throughout the movie and Harleen Quinzel sadly has none. In fact, she's one of the many characters who's stuck under the thumb of another or several. She's also one of the least physically powerful of the Squad whilst still being shown to be a competent melee brawler that can hold their own against even godlike forces in hand-to-hand combat.

8 Killer Croc

While certainly not any more influential than Harley Quinn, Killer Croc is much more powerful. He's shown to be entirely shunned by society and, much like Harley, no longer really considers themself worth much more than the low life that they live. But their strength is essentially on a metahuman level.

KC charges into battle and takes out scores of enemies without fear, even going toe-to-toe with Enchantress in the final battle and seeming to inflict a little bit of damage in hand-to-hand combat.

7 Katana

Katana is definitely one of the most overlooked characters within the entire movie but she's nonetheless firmly established as Rick Flag's right hand and a formidable opponent.

They wield a very powerful–or, at the very least, memorable–weapon and stand their ground when faced with Enchantress at their most powerful or Harley Quinn at their most vicious. However, they don't really give orders and follow what Flag is doing for the most part. It would be great to see more of her and her story in the DCEU.

6 Rick Flag

Rick Flag is described by Amanda Waller as the finest special Forces soldier that the US ever produced and certainly proves himself as a competent fighter and, ultimately, a good leader.

Flag does his best throughout a lot of the movie to resist Amanda Waller's power, but he's ultimately no match for the more powerful players within the game and is easily manipulated by her and Enchantress. He just about manages to keep the squad together and leads them to victory, even if they don't technically have much of a choice in the matter.

5 Deadshot

Deadshot may be in as bad a position as Flag in the movie but he seems more aware of the reality of his situation and he proves himself an even more powerful fighter than Flag in battle with unbeatable marksmanship skills.

Deadshot is who most of the squad naturally look to as a leader over Flag, who never really earns their respect, and he's shown to clearly know the value of his skill to the world around him.

4 Diablo

In terms of abilities, Diablo is the next most powerful character in the movie under Enchantress and arguably her brother, Incubus, who Diablo successfully subdues in a fight for some time.

In terms of influence, Diablo doesn't hold any more than any of the other squad members really and even remains passive for a large portion of the movie, but his sheer power as a metahuman is undeniable.

3 Joker

Joker has no abilities outside of his near-supernatural abilities as a manipulator and some metahuman-like skill at surviving serious-looking crashes, but their influence is felt throughout the entire DCEU.

Even in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which he doesn't even appear, Joker's hand is felt strongly as an indelible part of Batman's life. His control over all of his associates is seemingly absolute and he treats the world around him like his personal playground, truly taking what he wants, when he wants, from who he wants.

2 Dr. June Moon/Enchantress

Though Enchantress is really the metahuman of the equation that inhabits Dr. Moon's body, both of them hold a lot of influence in the movie. Dr. Moon really controls what Rick Flag decides to do and Enchantress controls Dr. Moon. The host may be somewhat powerless but they're still technically a hugely influential character.

The extent of Enchantress's powers is unknown and potentially limitless, they're a good match for Amanda Waller in terms of manipulation, and they prove themselves as a superior fighter against just about all of the squad.

1 Amanda Waller

Amanda Waller, like Joker, has no powers but that doesn't hold her back one bit when dealing with the most powerful beings around her, whether they be at the highest levels of the military or government or godlike metahumans.

Whilst Enchantress gives Waller a run for her money in terms of manipulation and influence, it should be noted that Waller is the one who not only comes out on top but appears to get everything that they wanted while suffering no lasting consequences. They're one of the DCEU's greatest minds and perhaps the only person who could ever hope to control the squad.
