Cloak & Dagger Season 2 Begins Filming, Confirms Olivia Holt

Olivia Holt has taken to social media to announce that filming has begun Cloak & Dagger season 2. Marvel Television and Freeform confirmed Cloak & Dagger's renewal back in July during San Diego Comic-Con, and it's expected to premiere sometime in spring 2019.

Cloak & Dagger season 1 was a hit for Marvel Television, receiving praise from audiences and critics alike. It was an unusual show, blending real-world political issues - ranging from racism to sexism, from date rape to police shootings - with all the classic superhero tropes. And it managed to keep viewers returning week after week, so it wasn't particularly surprising when Freeform renewed Cloak & Dagger for season 2. And now, that second season is getting underway.

Olivia Holt has taken to Instagram to confirm that production has started for season 2. "The dagger has officially landed for season 2," she noted, publishing a photo of her chair (showing her character's name) on set.

Showrunner Joe Pokaski has promised that the stakes will be even higher in Cloak & Dagger season 2. He's strongly hinted that this season will see the "Divine Pairing" confront one of their most terrifying foes in the comics, a villain who goes by the unassuming name of Mr. Jip. Born centuries ago, Mr. Jip was a student at Kamar Taj who manipulated the Ancient One into teaching him the secrets of immortality. He's become little more than a demon, jumping from one host to another, and, according to Pokaski, a strange vision in season 1 actually saw Tyrone come face to face with the creature. In the comics, Mr. Jip realized that Tyrone's dark power made him the ultimate vessel.

Meanwhile, it's safe to say the relationship between Tandy and Tyrone will continue to grow. The two are one of Marvel's most iconic couples, and there were sparks galore between the two teens in Cloak & Dagger season 1. Unfortunately, the potential romance was apparently doomed, given the two were unable to touch without generating an explosive blast of force. That ultimately led to the season finale, though, in which that energy proved the solution to the crisis facing New Orleans. They were both rendered unconscious, their hands still interlinked, clearly hinting that they're now able to touch at last. It's surely only a matter of time before the teens take the natural step from friends to something far more.

Finally, the end of season 1 teased that Detective O'Reilly has been transformed into a powerful new threat. In the comics, Tyrone's friend is twisted and corrupted into a ruthless villain who calls herself Mayhem, and it's clear the series will follow a similar path. Cloak and Dagger may find themselves wishing they only had to deal with the curse of the Divine Pairing.
