Dark Phoenix Trailer Remade Using X-Men: The Animated Series

The trailer for Dark Phoenix has been recreated using footage from X-Men: The Animated Series. 20th Century Fox has had nearly two decades worth of content coming to theaters. The franchise began back in 2000 and may come to a close in 2019 once the Disney-Fox merger is complete. It's positioned Dark PhoenixNew Mutants, and any other X-Men movie that could sneak into production before the deal closes to possibly be the final entries in this long-running franchise.

While some of the other movies that could still be released can be relatively standalone, Dark Phoenix will by all indications presumably be the ending of the main franchise. Fox launched the first Dark Phoenix trailer just recently, prior to making the decision to delay it (again) to June 2019.

The trailer has already drawn plenty of comparisons to previous X-Men films, but now the beloved animated series is being utilized to recreate the trailer. Darth Blender remade the Dark Phoenix trailer using footage from X-Men: The Animated Series to get the right moments and characters, but do it in a fashion where there's a sense of familiarity for fans of long-running series.

X-Men: The Animated Series debuted in 1992 on Fox's Children Network. The series ran for five seasons prior to it concluding in 1997 after 76 episodes worth of material, but it's still viewed by many as some of the best X-Men content outside of the comics despite going off the air over two decades ago. And since it actually predates any of the live-action movies Fox went on to make, the popularity of the series only helped the movies achieve success when they finally began.

This is the latest recreation of the Dark Phoenix trailer, as another fan edit remade the trailer with footage from X-Men: The Last Stand. Both movies tell The Dark Phoenix Saga storyline and fans have been quick to note how similar they appear to be. This is a storyline the animated series also adapted, but they dedicated almost the entirety of the third season to explore the source material. The nine-episode arc came after 26 episodes built up the major X-Men characters, so that way the audience has an emotional connection to them. The Last Stand tried to tell this story in the third film, while Dark Phoenix is doing it in the second with the new, young X-Men. Only time will tell if Simon Kinberg can successfully adapt the story this time. He has apologized for The Last Stand recently, so, hopefully, Dark Phoenix will rise above the previous missteps to deliver a worthy adaptation.
