Veronica Mars Revival Reunites Kristen Bell With Good Place Co-Star

The revival of Veronica Mars will reunite Kristen Bell with her The Good Place co-star Kirby Howell-Baptiste. Veronica Mars premiered in 2004 on UPN (which later became The CW). Although the series only ran for three seasons, it became a hit with both fans and critics, leaving many still puzzled over why the network ever decided to cancel it in 2007. The show follows the adventures of a high school girl, Veronica (Bell), moonlighting as a private eye under the tutelage of her father, a detective. Although each episode had a standalone case for Veronica to solve, each season had an overall mystery for her to uncover, starting with the death of one of her closest friends.

After its cancellation, Veronica Mars launched what became one of the largest Kickstarter campaigns of all time and funded a movie, which released in 2014. Even after that, though, fans couldn't get enough. Hulu recently announced that it had picked up Veronica Mars with Rob Thomas, the show's creator, and Bell, who portrayed Veronica, for a limited series to air in 2019.

Deadline reports that Kirby Howell-Baptiste will join the cast in a recurring role for the limited Veronica Mars Hulu series. Bell and Howell-Baptiste worked together on this season of NBC's The Good Place, so this casting effectively reunites the two women. Howell-Baptiste is known primarily for her recurring role as Sasha on HBO's Barry, but she will portray Nicole in Veronica Mars, a woman who owns the Neptune nightclub that becomes a target for a serial killer.

Many of the Veronica Mars cast will return to reprise their roles on the Hulu series. That includes Ryan Hansen, Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, David Starzyk, Enrico Colantoni and Percy Daggs III. Casting announcements hint that the limited series will revolve around a serial killer targeting spring break visitors to the town. There is also a Mexican cartel member in town seeking revenge for something, while it seems that Dick Casablancas, who is still in prison, will have a plot point revolving around him.

One thing is sure: Marshmallows never say die, and as long as the Veronica Mars cast and crew seem willing enough to continue to create new stories for fans, those fans will support it. Here's hoping that this limited series is just one of many more because Neptune will always have its dark secrets for Veronica to uncover.
