If Deadpool Was Cut in Half... Would TWO Grow Back? | Screen Rant

With Deadpool's famous regenerative healing abilities -- rivaling those of Wolverine himself -- fans have gotten the chance to see the character get brutally chopped, stabbed, burned, and blown up on several occasions. But there is one injury that puts his healing logic to the test for comic fans.

Between lost limbs and even decapitation, Wade Wilson has managed to sprout back up. And in most cases, it seems that his head is the key to regeneration success, seeing as it often has to be attached back onto his body to actually heal decapitation. But in Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, Wade suffers a truly gruesome injury courtesy of the Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman, who uses her powers to make his head explode. Elsewhere, Deadpool has been decapitated by the Hulk, but still survives. The logic stating Deadpool's body can grow his head back, too. So there is really only one question to ask: if cut in half, how would Deadpool's regenerative healing abilities work? Would two Deadpools grow back?

It seems that a lot of the answers lie in which way you slice it (literally). As we've seen in the film universe recently, and in the pages of Marvel Comics, Deadpool will regenerate new legs if cut horizontally. The same questions of logic applies to those fans who wonder what would happen if he was cut from head to toe vertically. The truth is that this has happened in the comics, but the circumstances don't allow us to have a definite answer.

In Deadpool Annual 2013, Deadpool is ripped apart by Luke Cage and Thor. He's split straight down the middle, but he had been melded together with Madcap for the duration of the issue, so the two halves simply become each of them. Since there was no technical injury, the two guys come out unscathed and fully formed. In Deadpool's Dark Reign storyline, his head had to be sewn back onto his body after it was severed to begin the healing process. This leads readers to believe that the healing process might require slapping the two Deadpool halves together to even begin.

Others say that the side of the body with Wade Wilson's heart might regenerate the true Deadpool, but this seems unlikely -- as Deadpool's head and thus brain has been essential for most other healing processes. That being said, if one were going to theoretically cut Deadpool vertically in half, it's hard to say if two would emerge fully regenerated, since a majority of the head usually needs to survive for the regeneration process to commence.

In the end, it is still purely up to those who write Deadpool in a given story os issue to put an official limitation on his regenerative abilities. The good news is that also means the story is ready to be told, should a writer wish to tell it. Just because readers haven't yet seen this scenario played out, Deadpool is exactly the kind of wild card character who could go either way.
