Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: 10 Ways They Can Continue Rey's Story

Rey is arguably one of the most important protagonists in the entire Star Wars sequel trilogy. Her journey from outcast scavenger on a remote planet to Jedi prodigy mirrors the protagonist from the original trilogy, a callow farmboy from a backwater planet who becomes a Jedi savior. That Rey should end up the Jedi apprentice of Luke Skywalker is no accident, and her desire to learn from the character most associated with determining their own destiny has given her arc a strong sense of agency.

Now that Rey's story of self discovery is concluded in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerthe ninth and final installment in the Skywalker saga, what's next? Is she going to pass on what she has learned, from all of the Jedi that came before her to a crop of new students? Or are her and BB-8 destined to headline a new Disney+ series? Here are 10 ways they can continue Rey's story.

10 SHE HELPS REBUILD THE REPUBLIC

With General Leia Organa, former Senator and Resistance leader now passed at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance will look to new figures to help rebuild. The First Order destroyed the Hosnian system, and with it the Galactic Senate with its Starkiller Base, so a new form of government of the republic will need to be put in its place.

Rey may be instrumental in helping this occur. For Poe Dameron, Finn, Rose, and other heroic Resistance leaders, their efforts won't end just because the First Order/Final Order has been eliminated. There will need to be a lot of troops on the ground helping to prioritize infrastructure restructuring.

9 SHE CONTINUES HER JEDI TRAINING IN A VIDEO GAME

Rey may decide to spend some time honing her Jedi training. According to the Star Wars: Battlefront games, and other paraphernalia, Luke went questing for ancient Jedi artifacts and relics to enrich his understanding of the Jedi Path, and Rey may continue with this tradition.

8 SHE TAKES AN APPRENTICE

If Rey is desirous to be awarded the rank of Jedi Master, she'll need to take on an apprentice. Training an apprentice/padawan learner in the ways of the Force enables a Jedi Knight to achieve the rank of Jedi Master once their apprentice undergoes the Jedi trials.

This was most likely how Luke Skywalker became a Jedi Master in the years between Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakensthough it's never expressly stated (he does have a Jedi Academy though). Rey may choose to follow in his footsteps.

7 SHE STARTS A JEDI ACADEMY IN A BOOK SERIES

Following Return of the Jedi, when Luke was the last of the Jedi, he started a Jedi Academy to pass on what he'd learned from Jedi Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. It began on Yavin IV, where one of the first Jedi Temples had been, and his nephew Ben Solo was among his first students.

Rey may choose to begin a Jedi Academy of her own, the chronicles of which could be cataloged in a canon book series. She could choose to make it on Ahch-To, to honor her late master Luke Skywalker, or she might choose to make it on Jakku, where she spent most of her life.

6 SHE HELPS FINN DEVELOP HIS FORCE SENSITIVITY

Throughout Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, viewers got the impression that Finn was Force sensitive. He seemed to have inexplicable hunches about events and situations that proved advantageous for the Resistance. When pressed, he described them as just "having a feeling".

Perhaps he'll seek out Rey's guidance on the subject, or she'll choose to take Finn as her first apprentice. If that's the case, they may choose not to pursue anything romantically, as the boundaries between teacher and student might interfere with their roles as each other's partner.

5 SHE SEARCHES FOR MORE FORCE USERS

Understanding that if a person with humble beginnings such as herself can have an uncanny ability to manipulate the Force, Rey may choose to seek out other Force users throughout the galaxy. If a conscripted First Order stormtrooper like Finn can have Force sensitivity, then who knows how many similar individuals are waiting to be plucked from obscurity.

Of course, just because someone is Force sensitive doesn't mean they want to be a Jedi. There have been several figures in Star Wars canon that possess Force gifts but don't want to follow the rigid Jedi Path, from the Nightsisters to the mysterious Guardians of the Whills.

4 SHE GETS A DISNEY+ SHOW WITH BB-8

Given the charming silhouette that's been presented of Rey and BB-8, from the sun-streaked desert sands of Jakku, to the twin-sun streaked desert wastelands of Tatooine, the unlikely pair may be headed on a whirlwind adventure in their very on Disney+ series.

Daisy Ridley still has a vibrant post-Star Wars career in front of her, but she may appreciate the chance to pursue full nuanced character development in a series that is stretched over ten episodes, such as The MandalorianThe Disney sequel trilogy has often been rushed to accommodate everything.

3 SHE BUMPS INTO BROOM KID

At the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedia scene is included involving a young boy working in the stables on the casino planet of Canto Bight. He has in his possession one of the Resistance decoder rings, as well as a broom which he calls to his hand with the Force while gazing up at the stars.

The scene implies that even poor, lowly stable boys have the ability to achieve greatness if they think beyond where they come from. Fans have been wondering what became of Broom Boy, so perhaps Rey will take it upon herself and track him down, instigating a children's revolt.

2 SHE GETS HER OWN COMIC SERIES

Though Daisy Ridley has said that she doesn't expect to reprise her role as Rey in any future Star Wars franchise films, Rey's story may continue in the world of comics. So far, Rey's story has been existing there in tandem with all of the major releases of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to add depth to their narrative.

Marvel has been making Star Wars comics off and on since 1977, and Rey could materialize in any number of the stories without even making her the main character. A comic doesn't have to rely on the scheduling conflicts, aging, or whim of a leading star.

1 SHE BECOMES A JEDI RECLUSE TO BE FOUND BY A FUTURE STAR WARS HERO

While Daisy Ridley may not be keen to feature as a headlining star for another round of Star Wars films, she may agree to pop up in a cameo role down the line. As new Star Wars films and Disney+ series get made, she may become part of the old guard that need to be brought in to add gravitas to a series the way Han, Leia, Luke, and Lando were.

She could become the old Jedi recluse that the young intrepid Jedi has to find. She could choose to live on Ahch-To, or another similarly obscure location, and bide her time until a hopeful would-be warrior comes along to needle her for everything she knows about the Force.
