Shahs of Sunset is a reality show that has been on Bravo since 2012. It focuses on Iranian-Americans in Beverly Hills, such as Reza Farahan, Golnesa Gharachedaghi, Mike Shouhed and Mercedes Javid. Viewers get to see all the details of their lives, ranging from work and romance to times they were BFF goals and times they definitely weren’t.
Since Season 8 will premiere on February 9, 2020, we thought it would be neat to look at some of the highest and lowest moments of this series. When this group gets along, they are like a family we so want to be a part of. But when they fight, we are glad we are not nearby!
10 BFFs: Trip To Turkey
During Season 3, the cast took a trip to Turkey. It was part of Asa’s family reunion, but they turned it into a bit of a getaway for their friend group. They saw the Blue Mosque, they had realizations, they went aboard a yacht, and they went to the Iranian border, as three of these traveling reality stars (Asa, Asa’s mother, and Reza) are not allowed to return to the Homeland. Seeing them in this exciting place, surrounded by such culture and history, was really beautiful.
9 Fighting: Meeting Anita
When this show first started, there Reza's birthday was celebrated in Las Vegas. At this time, fans were just being introduced to these stars, just as this friend group was just being introduced to one of Reza's friends, Anita.
And since girls can be a little catty and judgmental at times, GG and MJ were gossiping about Anita, criticizing her bony body and swimsuit, while she was in earshot of them. Reza did not appreciate this, and it caused some major tension on this trip.
8 BFFs: Staycation In Malibu
Season 4 brought about the staycation in Malibu, and while it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it was a fun moment from this show.
These people live in the Beverly Hills/Los Angeles area, and they decided to travel just a bit further, to Malibu, to party in the sun. The swim-appropriate ensembles, the foods and drinks (and more drinks), the setting, the camaraderie… We so would have accepted an invite to this staycation!
7 Fighting: Asa V. GG
A pool party we are glad we missed took place in Season 2. Asa and GG did not always get along, and things got superheated (so much so that GG took out her hoop earrings!) when GG believed Asa had made a not-so-nice comment about Omid’s nose.
GG had to be held back, while Asa just kept saying that this was typical GG behavior. Then GG was carried out of the party, over a shoulder, as Asa told her she needed to change it all up (instead of getting mad, again). It was a very memorable moment.
6 BFFs: Everyday Days
Honestly, the times we most want to be friends with these stars are when we see them doing everyday things.
Their families moved to the LA area for new lives. They grew up together. They became actual best friends. And they became more than that, as they are a family unit. So, yes, they can fight like no one else, but deep down, they love each other. The scenes that show them just hanging out, eating dinner, traveling and venting to one another prove that in a terrific way.
5 Fighting: MJ V. GG
Here is a recap of MJ’s and GG’s relationship throughout Season 3: MJ told Sean GG’s secret. MJ wouldn’t apologize to GG. Reza tried to get these two to make up. MJ still wouldn’t apologize to GG. Asa tried to get these two to make up. MJ took the fight to the next level by involving GG’s family.
Fights happen. Disagreements are normal. But seeing something like this happen between two people like this, people who had been like sisters for so long, was downright heartbreaking.
4 BFFs: Cultural Celebrations
Some of the best scenes from Shahs of Sunset highlight cultural celebrations, such as the Persian New Year, which was seen being celebrated at the beginning of Season 4 and again in Season 7.
They enjoy certain kinds of foods during these times. They all come together, no matter what. And there are wonderful traditions, such as leaving the old behind and embracing new things in life. Plus, this group knows how to party, so it is especially entertaining to watch them during their holidays.
3 Fighting: Reza V. GG
The fifth season showed GG in a battle with another cast member, Reza. He questioned whether she actually had rheumatoid arthritis and whether or not she had actually received chemotherapy. In retaliation, she said a guy from Reza’s gym had an adult video of Reza and him together. The climax of this fight involved Reza calling GG a disgrace of a human being, GG taking off her shoes to chase Reza, Adam dragging Reza out of a party and GG scratching Adam.
2 BFFs: Weddings
Of course, some of the best TV moments are weddings, and there have been a couple of this reality series. In Season 5, Reza married Adam. It was intimate, it was in Palm Springs, and it was about time!
At the end of Season 7, MJ tied the knot with Tommy, and the wedding was… so MJ, and so great. And last year, these two also welcomed a son into the world: Shams Francis Javid, who is named after MJ's late father and Tommy's late mother.
1 Fighting: Weddings That Almost Weren't
Those who enjoy watching reality TV live for dramatic blow-ups. However, we have to remember that these are real people. Therefore, there are some moments that are just too sad!
Reza and Adam and MJ and Tommy, for instance, make up two couples who questioned whether or not they should stay together. Audiences and those around them watched as they went back and forth, arguing over some major topics. We are glad it all worked out in the end, though!
