Thor: The 10 Most Powerful Versions of Mjolnir, Ranked

Asgard undoubtedly has many strong gods to defend it, but part of their power comes from the various weapons they use. With so many ancient characters in the MCU, there must be many ancient weapons and tools these characters wield in battle.

Nevertheless, today's topic is Thor's hammer - Mjolnir. You will be surprised by the number of alternatives it has had in different comics and the powers they give their masters. Here are The 10 Most Powerful Versions Of Mjolnir, Ranked.

10 MCU Mjolnir

MCU's Mjolnir might be strong, but it is not strong enough to top this list. What is peculiar about it is that it appears before we actually see its owner Thor (remember the post-credit scene in Iron Man 2). Besides, Mjolnir plays an integral part in the first Thor movie.

Nevertheless, MCU Mjolnir is the one most fans know about. After all, it has appeared in numerous iconic scenes, including the one in Avengers: Endgame when Captain America wields the hammer or the one in Avengers: Age of Ultron when each of the Avengers tries to lift Mjolnir as Thor laughs at them.

9 Ultimate Mjolnir

As some fans might know, the Ultimate series is quite a controversial line of comics and has caused numerous debates. Not only does the series make no sense most of the time, but it also has a questionable Thor storyline with his favorite weapon being just as impressive and unimpressive at the same time.

Ultimate Mjolnir is both a great source of power and not even a real magic weapon at the same time. In fact, it is just a huge battery created by the European Defense Initiative, and everything happening with the character who is supposedly Thor, is also made up to an extent.

8 Medieval Mjolnir

Also known as Earth 37072 Mjolnir, Medieval Mjolnir is the one wielded by Medieval Thor from an enchanted Manhattan. This hammer only existed in this universe and only thanks to the magic, but there is not much known about Medieval Mjolnir.

On Earth 37072, the evil wizard Kulan Gath has conquered Manhattan and transformed it into a medieval world where everyone forgets about modern life. This world is guarded by a corresponding version of Avengers among whom we find this medieval version of Thor.

7 Stormcaster

Gifted to Storm by Loki, Stormcaster was not affiliated with Thor but still belonged to Norse mythology and was directly tied to Loki and his magic. However, this gesture from Loki's side did not have good intentions behind it. In fact, the Norse god cast a spell on Storm who now thought that her fellow X-Men were actually enemies.

After the Wolverine took on her attack, Storm managed to snap out of it and broke the spell by destroying Stormcaster with the help of Thor's Mjolnir. Essentially, Stormcaster has the same abilities as Mjolnir, but it could potentially possess some other properties because it is connected to Loki's magic.

6 Thunderstrike

Just like Mjolnir, Thunderstrike had writing on it, which read, "The world still needs heroes." After Eric Masterson had to be Thor for some time, Odin gifted Eric with this weapon which mostly resembles a mace rather than a hammer. It does look similar to Mjolnir, but there are still some differences.

Thunderstrike gave Eric (and then his son Kevin) almost every ability that Mjolnir gave Thor. However, instead of summoning lightning, it could project energy blasts. In terms of power, Thunderstrike was inferior to Mjolnir. Eric discovered this while battling Juggernaut and his archenemy Bloodaxe both of whom defeated him.

5 Crusher

To some extent, Crusher could be considered an improvement after Mjolnir (because of its longer handle), but it is still inferior to Thor's primary weapon. Besides, Crusher was given to the so-called Roger "Red" Norvell by Odin himself when he needed to replace Thor with someone else while his son was away on Earth.

Red Norvell was originally a part of a crew who were making a documentary about Asgard. He fell in love with Lady Sif and Loki convinced him to take Thor's strength-giving belt Megingjord and the Iron Gloves of Power, which basically gave him the same abilities as Thor had, including the ability to lift Mjolnir. A while later, Red Norvell died, but at some point, he was resurrected by Odin to replace Thor and given his own hammer - Crusher.

4 Thorion's Mjolnir

It's safe to say that Thorion's Mjolnir is by far one of the most impressive hammers on this list even though it is debatable whether or not it is more powerful than Thor's Mjolnir. However, it did give its owner the combined abilities of Thor and Orion, one of DC's New Gods.

Yes, you heard it right. Thorion was created by the two companies together back when they did work on some projects as one team. Thorion had to fight his former father Thanoseid (a combination of Thanos and Darkseid) and his pseudo-brother L'ok D'saad (a combination of Loki and DeSaad).

3 Hammer of Skadi

Unlike almost every hammer mentioned here, the Hammer of Skadi is a weapon that brings evil. It was introduced in 2011's Fear Itself comics, which also featured a variety of other hammers that often turned their owners into evil versions of themselves. Yet this was the one more powerful than any of them.

Sin, the daughter of Red Skull, wanted to rule over the world with the help of pure fear. This is why she set out to find the legendary Hammer of Skadi, Odin's niece. With its help, she awakens The Serpent and persuaded others to join her and conquer the world. What's interesting is that neither Sin's father nor Hitler himself were able to lift the hammer while Sin could.

2 Stormbreaker

Who would have thought that Beta Ray Bill would defeat Thor? Well, that is exactly what happened in the somewhat "origin" story of the infamous Stormbreaker. Bill would eventually become the owner of this hammer, which gave him the abilities Thor had and his own Korbinite powers.

When Bill and Thor met, they had an identity-crisis battle over Mjolnir where Bill won. However, Odin intervened and asked Eitri, the dwarf who created Mjolnir, to make a similar weapon for Bill. That's how Stormbreaker was created (though it's a somewhat different story in the MCU).

1 Original Mjolnir

The reason why MCU Mjolnir is not as powerful as its comics original is because most powers in the movies had to be decreased in order for the story to function logically. Nevertheless, the original Mjolnir - which does look much like the MCU one - is still the most powerful hammer of all.

Forged as a gift by the dwarfs, the original Mjolnir from comics was then given to Thor by his father Odin. Whoever was worthy would be able to lift it. It gave Thor a variety of powers that are already well-known by most fans, including the ability to summon lightning and fly.
