ABC is expanding their hit franchise The Bachelor by tapping into the world of music with the spinoff The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart. Here are some things you need to know about the new musically themed show ahead of its premiere.
Spinoff's are not anything new to the successful series. Since its premiere in 2002, the series has grown, with now 24 seasons under its belt and several spinoffs, including the equivalently successful The Bachelorette, which is preparing for its 16th season. Stemming from The Bachelor's growth is also Bachelor Pad, The Bachelor Canada, Bachelor in Paradise, Bachelor in Paradise: After Paradise, The Bachelor Winter Games, the upcoming The Bachelor Summer Games and now The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart. Past derivations of the show ventured off from the show's premise but none of them included the focus of music.
The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart is designed for singles to form attractions and find love through music. A group of single men and women will perform songs individually and as couples in an attempt to be the last duet performers standing. The goal is to develop a romantic connection through music and have that shared love prevail through performance. Keeping with the franchise brand, the musically themed show will be hosted by Chris Harrison and will have a similar format to its parent show, with the contestants living together and having to go on dates and partake in challenges. The setup will be heightened with the addition of music-based dates and challenges. As an added component, heavy hitters from the music industry have been invited to critique their live performances. Those whose can articulate their love through their performances will be provided the chance to continue on until there is only one couple remaining.
According to Gold Derby, this musical version of the The Bachelor will have 23 contestants, 11 women and 12 men, ranging from the ages of 21 to 38. The contestants come from all across the country, with a majority hailing from California or Tennessee. Based off the contestants' brief bios, with the exception of hip-hop, every genre from musical theater to neo-soul is expected to be fair game. Bekah, 25, is a native of Washington, D.C., and comes from a musical theater background. Ryan, a 28-year-old from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, is listed as having talents in jazz, funk, pop and R&B. Two participants from California, Danny and Michael Todd, have musical styles listed as singer-songwriter.
While The Bachelor is inching towards its 24th season finale, ABC is giving fans another spinoff to continue catering to their love of the franchise. In this new venture, to find a soulmate through the shared love of music, viewers can expect more than a pairing of couples on The Bachelor Presents: Listen To Your Heart. The familiar format provides a sense of nostalgia for Bachelor Nation fanatics and invites music lovers to join the fan base. With the combination of host Chris Harrison and former Bachelor Nation alums, including former Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher and her fiancé Jordan Rogers, it will feel like The Bachelor never left.
The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart will premiere Monday, April 13 at 8pm EST on ABC.
