FromSoftware is open to adjusting the difficulty of Elden Ring, according to a recent rumor. Elden Ring is FromSoftware's upcoming title developed in collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
Elden Ring was announced back at E3 2019 during Microsoft's keynote and fans have been very eager to learn more about the game since. The collaboration with George R.R. Martin boosted the game's popularity considerably, with even non-gamers showing their interest in the title. Elden Ring will feature gameplay similar to other titles in the Soulsborne genre but will not be a full-fledged Souls game, according to the developers. In the reveal trailer, FromSoftware just showcased the various characters in the game, leaving an aura of mystery around the story. While there was no gameplay footage or any other information about the game, is has been rumored that Elden Ring will be based on the Norse Mythology, and kingdoms will play an important role in the game. Players might need to travel to different kingdoms to take down rulers, and after going missing in FromSoftware's last title, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, character creation will once again be making a comeback in Elden Ring.
The latest rumor comes from Resetera user Omnipotent, an alleged insider at FromSoftware. Omnipotent says that the developers are open to making difficulty adjustments in the game after getting feedback from the players. He cites the example of Dark Souls DLC, The Ringed City, to back up his claims, saying that FromSoftware nerfed the Angels in the game after players complained that they were too hard to deal with.
The claims made by the user might sound more like a generalized opinion rather than an insight, but when it comes to FromSoftware's games, the user has been pretty credible in the past. He had earlier revealed significant chunks of information about Sekiro: Shadows Dies Twice, which turned out to be true. FromSoftware might not just straightaway make the difficulty in Elden Ring adjustable, but it seems like they are indeed taking feedback seriously and figuring out a way to make it more accessible for a variety of players.
When it comes to FromSoftware's games, the difficulty level has always been a talking point. While many players have been asking for an easy mode, veteran fans of the genre have been opposing it vehemently. However, From Software has been able to deal with it pretty well. For instance, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice itself had the difficulty toned down as compared to other titles in the Soulsborne franchise. FromSoftware did compensate for that by adding an Easter Egg in the form of the Demon Bell, which increased the difficulty significantly. That way, the game was made accessible for a larger pool of players while appeasing hardcore fans at the same time. It wouldn't be surprising to see something similar in Elden Ring as well.
