Supernatural Season 15 Final Seven Episodes Will Air This Year

The final episodes of Supernatural season 15 will air in 2020. Back in March of last year, it was announced that the long-running saga of Sam and Dean Winchester would be coming to an end. As their final challenge, the Winchesters would face off against God. In the season 14 finale, “Moriah,” it had been revealed that the seemingly benevolent Chuck had been manipulating the lives of Sam and Dean because he delighted in watching their torment. There was a sign of hope in one of the most recent Supernatural episodes, as Billie revealed that Jack and the Winchesters are an integral part of God’s demise. However, as the heroes found reasons to be optimistic, audiences were left to speculate on what would happen next.

That’s because the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the schedule for Supernatural. By the time that social distancing guidelines were in place and production had to be shut down, 18 of the season’s 20 episodes were partially ready to air. Meanwhile, principal photography on the last two episodes was incomplete. Another issue was that special effects were yet to be finished, which is the reason why the partially completed installment was not fit to be aired. Andrew Dabb, the executive producer of Supernatural, took to Twitter to explain the situation.

Dabb promised that the series would be completed despite the unexpected delays. Per Comic Book, The CW has revealed its schedule for Fall 2020. While most premieres for original shows have been bumped from their 2020 premieres, moving to 2021, the sole exception is Supernatural, which will air its final batch of episodes later this year. This is in contrast to the Arrowverse shows, for example, all of which have been moved to January 2021.

The CW remains focused on ending Supernatural the right, with the plan being for the remaining episodes to shoot in the last summer or early fall. This would provide Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) enough time to go off and start his new show Walker, which is also set to air on The CW.

While we still don’t have an exact date for when viewers can expect to see the Winchesters resume their battle against God, this latest news serves as reassurance that the series will be able to sign off without having to wait until 2021. The break could even prove to be a positive development for Supernatural, potentially offering the writers a little extra breathing room to work out any narrative kinks. Audiences, in any case, will still be amped up for the show’s return whenever it arrives.
