On Pretty Little Liars, Alison DiLaurentis was the blonde "it" girl. Her female peers wanted to be her, every guy in town wanted to be with her, and all of Rosewood had a mix of admiration and fear towards her. There was no one like her, and she helped make this television series super dramatic and thrilling!
While she was just a TV character on a teen drama, she had personality traits, interests, likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, just like everybody else. The traits listed below are her five best and her five worst.
10 Best: Made People Feel Special
The people closest to Alison were her best friends: Spencer Hastings, Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin and Emily Fields. She hand-picked them, saw something special in them and made them part of her elite group.
They all discussed how she made them feel like no one else. She had a magical beauty to her that drew in crowds. And she told her pals that their secrets sealed their bond.
9 Worst: Used People
However, Ali knew that she had power, and she abused it. She bullied kids at school. She blackmailed adults. She even teased her own friends.
Being pretty and popular comes with its advantages, but that pull can go to a person’s head. Thankfully, she grew up and transformed from the first season to the last.
8 Best: Stylish
Part of being a queen bee was dressing the part. Of course, Ali could have worn rags and still looked gorgeous, but that was not her style.
Her hair and makeup were always glamorous, and she dressed in a very trendy and flirty way. This added to her overall appeal.
7 Worst: Self-Centered
While there were so many sins Alison was guilty of, one of the top ones would have been vanity. She knew she was beautiful and that people admired her, and she admired herself a lot, too. This did make sense, as this list further proves that she had so many positive traits!
Many of the flashbacks shown on Pretty Little Liars featured Alison making selfish moves, not caring what anyone else said or thought and steamrolling anyone in order to get whatever she wanted.
6 Best: Wise
Another strength this character had was wisdom. She may have just looked like a pretty face, but she was studious and witty, which was a bit dangerous -- it added to her power and she could trick anyone. After all, the world thought she was dead for quite some time!
She used these smarts for good, as well, since she came back to Rosewood to teach and pass along her knowledge.
5 Worst: Manipulative
Pretty Little Liars was about Alison and her friends, and it was full of mystery and drama. But a central theme was how things could seem perfect, and yet be oh-so-wrong. Alison lived in a charming town. She had lovely friends around her. And she had a dark side.
It was scary to see what she could get away with, but it was nice that as the story progressed, she realized her mistakes and matured.
4 Best: Loved Fiercely
Just as Ali could make a person feel special, she could also love in an intense way. The other main characters on this show had families and significant others, but the love between these girls was so inspiring and beautiful!
Even through all their ups and downs and even after years passing, they always came together like no time had passed and no issues had occurred.
3 Worst: Could Take Advantage Of Those Who Loved Her
However, Ali sometimes took advantage of that love. She did not always return it in the right way and didn’t appreciate it.
A great example is her relationship with Emily. Em would have done anything for Ali, and she loved her as more than a friend. Despite this, Ali mocked her, turned her down and kept big secrets from her … until she finally got honest and proposed.
2 Best: Independent
Since Alison lived out on her own, sneaking around and pretending like she was gone forever, she was obviously independent and brave and could take care of herself. Even when she returned and went through more pain, dealing with Archer, she put on a smile and stayed strong.
She did have a soft and sensitive side, and she did enjoy being taken care of, as well. It just took her a while to admit any of that.
1 Worst: Unsettled
She did eventually admit it, though and broke down in front of her friends. She finally showed some weakness and asked Emily to marry her. As fans of Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists know, this marriage failed.
Ali had a haunted past, and while everyone deserves a happy ending, her strongest negative traits may have kept her from being able to settle down, relax and embrace love, fully and forever.
