Blumhouse & Ryan Murphy Team Up For Stephen King Movie At Netflix

Blumhouse and Ryan Murphy will team up for a film adaptation of Stephen King’s Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. Murphy, the mastermind producer behind American Horror Story, continues to prove his worth to Netflix after leaving 20th Century Fox to partner with the streaming giant. Blumhouse maintains rapport with King as the production company also has a remake of Firestarter on the horizon. Now, Murphy and Blumhouse will bring another one of King’s works to life.

Per THR, Blumhouse and Murphy will join forces to adapt King’s short story Mr. Harrigan’s Phone for Netflix. Noted by readers as reflecting the same tones as King’s Stand by Me, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone follows Craig, a young boy who is hired by Mr. Harrington, an elderly billionaire who has retired in a small-town neighborhood. After years of keeping him company, Craig buys Mr. Harrigan an iPhone. Upon Mr. Harrigan's death, Craig arranges for the phone to be buried in his old friend’s pocket. After leaving a voicemail to the deceased Mr. Harrigan, Craig receives a message in return and discovers that not everything dead is gone.

As it stands, King's novels getting the adaptation treatment shows no signs of slowing down. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone will likely be a massive success under Blumhouse and Murphy’s guidance. It’ll be interesting to see how the powerhouses behind some of the most revered movie and television projects of all time will formulate King’s Mr. Harrigans’s Phone for Netflix.
