Star Wars: The Bad Batch - 4 Reasons Fans Are Excited About The New Show (& 6 They Want A Rebels Sequel More)

It came as a shock to most fans when, rather than the long-anticipated sequel to RebelsThe Bad Batch got announced as the next Star Wars animated show. Releasing in 2021, it will focus on the titular group, otherwise known as Clone Force 99, the four-turned-five clone group seen in the seventh season of The Clone Wars immediately after the events of the war.

Most fans are excited about the new show, with any new Star Wars being a good thing. However, there are a lot of fans who would have much rather seen the Rebels sequel announced, with The Bad Batch later, or not at all.

10 Rebels Sequel - Has A Clear Purpose

This is not to say that The Bad Batch is not getting released without thought or reason, but it does seem too early for more Clone Wars-adjacent television content when there is so much more out there, and fans are still recovering from season seven of the show.

The Rebels sequel, however, is a show with a clear purpose and story to tell that was set up years ago, rather than a concept that only got introduced to fans not too long ago.

9 Bad Batch - Good For The Future Of Star Wars Stories On Disney+

Similar to how Rogue One: A Star Wars Story bode well for the future of individual stories on the big screen, The Mandalorian leads the charge in original Disney+ series content for the franchise.

With The Bad Batch, new territory is entered into once again, and if it succeeds from popularity and narrative standpoint, more original shows at a more frequent rate become far more likely.

8 Rebels Sequel - Natural Direction For Star Wars Series

As got talked about earlier, the Rebels sequel is a story with a purpose, and with the end of The Clone Wars was the thing fans expected next, it was the natural next point for Star Wars series' to go.

Fans just absorbed the emotional ride that was The Clone Wars season seven, to go back to around the time of Revenge Of The Sith again this soon makes much less sense than waiting, and delivering the Rebels sequel first.

7 Bad Batch - The Early Transition From Republic To Empire

The period between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope has gotten a lot of exploration through various mediums; however, there has not been something mainstream that looks at the Empire this early.

Jedi: Fallen Order takes place five years after the events of Revenge Of The Sith, so seeing the Republic transition into the Empire this early on will be fascinating to see, with stormtroopers introduced to the Galaxy, and tyrannical changes throughout the systems.

6 Rebels Sequel - Fans Have Waited A Long While

The Clone Wars' seventh season introduced fans to Clone Force 99 not long ago at all, as talked about earlier. It has been over two years now since fans got left with many questions surrounding the future of the beloved Rebels characters.

There was no real demand for a Clone Wars follow up of this nature, especially this soon. As much as dedicated fans are looking forward too it, it would be a hard task to find one of those fans who have not been long awaiting the Rebels follow up.

5 Bad Batch - The Plot Sounds Excellent

Fans did not get too much information on the show, its setting, characters, and plot, but what was given out sounds pretty excellent, with a lot of potential.

The group on mercenary missions following Order 66 while the Republic transitions to the Empire and clones try to find their purpose in the Galaxy, all are things fans are and should be, excited to see.

4 Rebels Sequel - Better Characters

This is by no means saying that the Bad Batch arc was terrible, it was really good, great even, and the characters were fun, with Echo, Rex, and Anakin being standouts in that arc.

The Rebels characters though, are far better, more fleshed out, with a lot more potential than the five Bad Batch members. Ahsoka, Sabine, Thrawn, Ezra, other members of the Ghost crew maybe, these are well known, layered, and adore characters.

3 Bad Batch - Clones In A Post-Clone War Galaxy

The clone troopers are a standout aspect of The Clone Wars as we see them grow as individuals with distinctive features and personalities, rather than just being a number.

How will this transfer to a life where clones are cast aside in favor of stormtroopers, though? It is a fascinating plot point, and seeing clones introduced to the show, and reintroduced to the audience as they find their purpose and role in a new Galaxy will likely be a standout aspect of the show should it come to fruition.

2 Rebels Sequel - Much Fresher

As has gotten mentioned before, the Rebels sequel was long expected by fans as the next original animated show. It has been over two years since the Rebels finale, and the story potential it ends with has not gotten a lick of exploration.

The Bad Batch, though, had a four-episode story not long ago. Clone Wars related/styled content is still running through the fan's minds. A Rebels sequel announcement would have been fresher and more exciting.

1 Rebels Sequel - It Is What Fans Want

When it comes down to it, any Star Wars is good Star Wars, but when fans want it, crave it, have waited for it, and expected it, that is when it gets better.

There is simply no doubt that the majority of Star Wars fans in tune with the franchise to the depths of animated shows would far rather Rebels sequel than The Bad Batch. The new show will likely be fantastic in reality, but as of now, fans still want that Rebels follow up.
