Ninja Gaiden Trilogy Listing For Nintendo Switch And PS4 Suddenly Appears

A Hong Kong video game distributor has leaked a Ninja Gaiden Trilogy for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 next year in a listing that indicates it will include the three most recent titles from the series. It has been almost eight years since the last Ninja Gaiden game, with no additions to the franchise confirmed for current-gen consoles.

The Ninja Gaiden series began in 1988 with the original game releasing for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The success of that title led to a series of sequels for Nintendo systems before the franchise expanded onto Sega consoles. A modern reboot launched in 2004 in the form of Ninja Gaiden as an exclusive on the Xbox, although an enhanced version of the title would come to PlayStation 3 a few years later. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge is the most recent entry in the series, having released in 2012

Reddit user kokokko416 has discovered what appears to be a brand new listing for a Ninja Gaiden Trilogy collection. The Redditor linked to a page on the Hong Kong video game retailer Game Source Entertainment, which has since been deleted, showing the bundle will come to both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in March 2021. According to the leaked listing, the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy will include Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. In total, it is set to cost $40, although it is still not clear whether this is a remastered collection or a direct re-release of the original games. There's also no mention of the games coming to Xbox One or next-gen consoles.

Team Ninja, the developer behind the modern Ninja Gaiden games, has most recently worked on the Nioh franchise, which takes a different, more Dark Souls-inflected approach to difficulty than Ninja Gaiden. The success of Nioh led Team Ninja to release a sequel in March of this year. However, the developer has acknowledged the desire from fans for a new Ninja Gaiden game, even if it means that the company does not work on its critically-acclaimed RPG franchise in the immediate future.

As with any rumor or leak, this supposed reveal has to be taken with a grain of salt. Stores often post incorrect information on sites before quickly removing the mistake, so a Ninja Gaiden Trilogy collection might not be in the works at all. But it would make plenty of sense for Team Ninja to test the waters for a possible Ninja Gaiden return with a bundle of older games before committing to a brand new project. Hopefully, that is the case here and fans will get more ninja action in the near future.
