The Facts About Google's Upcoming 2 Gigabit Internet

Those looking to make the switch for faster internet can soon look to Google, with the company having recently announced its Google Fiber service is beginning to test a '2 Gig' plan option. With speeds into the multi-gigabits, it's hard to imagine having difficulty with even some of the most intense online data pressures, such as streaming.

In the past, one may never have dreamed of Google as a source of high-speed internet but the company, once only known for a popular search engine, is much more a part of the tech industry than it was before. Today Google sells a line of smartphones, laptops, and even owns the Waze GPS navigation software. In fact, even connecting to the internet is nothing new for Google, considering it has offered its Google Fiber service to consumers in select cities since 2010.

In a blog posting, Google confirmed plans to soon offer a new 2 Gig option. To start, the service will be testing out the new option in Nashville and Huntsville from next month. The company says it then plans to expand 2 Gig availability to customers in its other Google Fiber cities in early 2021. Google makes its internet service capabilities clear, boasting high speeds on both the upload and download sides. Downloads can pull up to 2 gigabits whereas uploads are rated for up to 1. In addition to the quicker internet, the 2 Gig package also includes a new Wi-Fi 6 Router as well as a mesh extender. With all this, the technology company is confident that the buyer will see a 30-percent increase in speed, even with more devices on the network.

The connection and hardware aren't all there is to look forward to when it comes to Google's plan. For a monthly payment of $100, there's no cap on data. There is also no annual contract or additional costs for professional installation, and the equipment is also covered. Additionally, a 24/7 customer service team is also available with this plan. What's more, at $100. the price is only $30 more than the 1 Gig internet that Google Fiber already offers.

With upload and download rates so often measured in megabits-per-second, Google makes a significant claim to be able to supply and support an expected speed of this caliber. Even for fiber-optic networks this news will be exciting for some shoppers, especially those whose homes put a heavy demand on the net. For those looking for a new plan, it's always worth researching on what other service providers offer in their plans compared to the price, irrespective of whether it's Google or anyone else.
