An old bug that can stop Gunships from deploying correctly in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is also present in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, despite the fact that developer Treyarch was apparently aware of the issue. The latest entry in the long-running shooter series was widely praised for its gameplay and story but has had a number of high-profile bugs and glitches that have caused some controversy in the Call of Duty community.
Last week, it emerged that some users were experiencing an issue whereby weapon camos could be removed from player's inventories. The bug is being blamed on a problem with the game's lobby system, with challenge progress that is tied to the unlocked content being reset. This then causes the unlocked reward to disappear. Meanwhile, another recent glitch has seen character models in multiplayer lose almost all of their hair and clothing during matches.
A number of Reddit users have discovered that a famous bug from Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 4 is also present in the latest game. According to a post on the forums dedicated to the game, the glitch stops players from being able to use the Gunship killstreak in gameplay. After opening the laptop that controls the helicopter a message reads that the aircraft is out of fuel and it disappears before ever making an appearance on the map. This effectively means that some users don't ever get to use the Gunship as it never arrives during gameplay before the error happens. Redditor Pony_Baloney confirmed that this bug had been present in the earlier game and was likely transferred to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in code that was recycled for the latest release.
These types of bugs might be one of the reasons that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has proved to not be as popular as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Activision revealed earlier in December that the older game had been almost three times as popular in terms of players in November as the new title. This was largely a result of the battle royale mode Warzone, which continues to use content from both Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War.
It is practically impossible to release a game without any bugs. Modern games are just so large and complex that glitches are always going to crop up in some form or another. However, the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War seems to have more than its fair share of issues is not a good look for Treyarch or Activision—especially when the bug in question has been a problem for several years.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
