Kevin Hart & Wesley Snipes To Play Brothers In Netflix Show True Story

Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes will play brothers in a new upcoming limited Netflix series, True Story. Though Snipes has had his share of troubles over the years, the 58-year-old remains a respected actor who is set to appear in Eddie Murphy’s upcoming and highly anticipated Coming to America sequel. As for Hart, the acclaimed comedian has also been at the center of more than a few controversial moments over the years. Much like Snipes, though, these issues haven’t derailed his career, and his list of upcoming comedic projects is substantial.

Hart recently released his Netflix stand up special Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given, which shows off a different side to the famed comedian as he speaks frankly from a set in his home. Comedy is definitely where Hart feels the most comfortable, and this is understandable given how well he’s done with his wide variety of films and stand up specials. Snipes, on the other hand, has had a long and varied career in which he’s taken on many different genres. It’s hard to say just what pairing the two stars together on a project would look like, but fans are surely willing to find out.

According to Collider, Hart and Snipes will co-star in True Story, an upcoming eight episode Netflix limited series. It marks new territory for both actors, but for Hart, it’s the first time he’s traded comedy for a dramatic series. True Story follows Kid (Hart) a famous comedian whose tour hits his hometown of Philadelphia. While there, he encounters his older brother Carlton (Snipes), whose unpredictable behavior becomes a matter of life and death as a single evening threatens to destroy everything that Kid has worked for.

Fans of Hart will already know that the comedian’s real-life hometown is Philadelphia, so this production will be a homecoming of sorts. As a comedian, Hart has long since made a big mark on the City of Brotherly Love, particularly with his record-breaking What Now? tour in which he performed before a sold out audience of 53,000 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field in 2015. True Story sounds as though it could be an excellent opportunity for Hart to try something new, and with a co-star like Snipes, there’s every reason to believe that the two actors will push one another to great heights. Watchmen director Stephen Williams is set to direct the first four episodes, with Hanelle Culpepper (Star Trek: Picard) taking on the final four.

According to Hart, True Story will be a series that no one is ready for – a descriptor that is clearly open to interpretation. But while the series promises to be dramatic and the subject matter sounds as though it could indeed take some dark turns, the fact remains that the story follows a professional stand-up comedian on tour, meaning that a few Hart jokes could still find their way in here and there. However, fans shouldn’t expect a typical Hart romp from this latest project, and that is a major part of what makes it all so exciting.
