Southern Charm: Why Leva Has A Problem With Kathryn's Ancestor's Statue

Why does Leva from Southern Charm have such a problem with Kathryn's ancestor's statue? The newest member has already been attacked on social media, with some fans going as far as to write she should be on Shahs of Sunset. But this newbie is not backing down.

Leva Bonaparte is one of the newest cast members to join the reality series Southern Charm for its seventh season. She has been seen before on the show as a close friend of Cameran Eubanks, but this is her first year as a permanent member. Leva is ready to shake up the deep South, as she fights for The Black Lives Matter Movement while also showing off her Persian heritage.

Leva is at the forefront of change in Charleston, and not every fan is thrilled to be watching the mother of one on the show. She has made it her mission to call out Kathryn Dennis for her "white privilege" and start a conversation on why the South is dead.

As fans learned, John C. Calhoun was the Vice President of the United States and a strong believer in owning slaves. He is also remembered for protecting the interests of whites in the South when residents were outnumbered by the Yankees. Naturally, he is a part of our history, but it belongs in a museum, not in a public park. Leva wanted to bring attention to the statue, since, for many, seeing a historical figure such as him brings back painful memories. Many fans have taken up arms and argued that they don't like seeing Leva and want a younger cast, but the bar owner is talking about a topic that needs to be addressed, and she has the perfect platform to do it. Most who argued for her removal from the show stated that she wasn't even southern or from Charleston. Well, neither is Craig Conover, and everyone likes him. On the most recent episode, fans watched as Leva spoke to cameras saying, "I think the statue coming down could really be a moment of healing for our community. It could be a really powerful first step in this particular city."

The fact that Kathryn didn't even attempt to address the topic was a bit of a slap in the face. Even her former employer called her out at a lady's lunch for not caring and acting as if the statue did not affect her. Most viewers support Leva and think she is doing the right thing. For those who don't, maybe they are just on the wrong side of history—and watching the wrong show.
