Brittany Dodd and Marcelino Santiago have been a standout couple on Life After Lockup. Cameras have captured the couple's journey following Brittany's release from prison. They have remained transparent about issues in their marriage and family. As fans learn more about the Santiagos in season 3 of Life After Lockup, the couple recently opened up about how the show sped up their relationship-building process.
Fans of the show are well aware of Brittany's troubled childhood. The current season of the show features Brittany's attempt at rebuilding a relationship with her mother, who suffers from alcoholism. As a child, Brittany ran away from home at the age of 12 to escape abuse. By the age of 15, Brittany gave birth to two children who she was forced to give up for adoption because she wasn't sober at the time. Then, at the age of 18, she was sentenced to five years behind bars. Following her release in 2013, she was arrested three years later for conspiracy to commit robbery. It was during her second stint in prison that she met Marcelino through a pen pal program. Since her release in 2018, Brittany has changed her life around and Marcelino has been by her side every step of the way.
The couple's family has grown since getting married. After gaining custody of Brittany's 4-year-old son Gio, the duo welcomed their daughter Zoila in December 2018 and their son Marciano in March 2020. But, according to Brittany, being on television "fast-tracked" their relationship. "It [Life After Lockup] definitely fast-tracked our relationship," Brittany told ScreenRant in an exclusive interview. "I've been home for about two and a half years from prison, and we've already had two children and bought a house. I've essentially completed parole; we got married," she added.
Marcelino agreed with his wife, and likened their relationship to a "high-speed bullet train." "It's been something of a whirlwind," Marcelino shared with ScreenRant. "It's been fast-paced. Who else gets married, has two kids and a house? I feel like I'm on a high-speed bullet train, everything's going by me so fast."
Despite how fast they've moved, Marcelino acknowledged how grateful he is for how much his life has changed in the last three years. "I appreciate everything that I have now," the father of three told ScreenRant. "Two and a half years ago, I was by myself, alone in a studio apartment in Downtown Vegas. Now here I am, with a house, a dog, and kids." In addition to their three children, both Brittany and Marcelino each brought home a dog. They now call themselves parents of five kids.
