Two Mandalorian Spinoff Shows Confirmed, Will Lead To Crossover

Two new The Mandalorian spin-offs, Ahsoka Tano and Rangers of the New Republic, will be crossing over. On the heels of the success of the Pedro Pascal-led series, Lucasfilm is expanding their live-action Star Wars lineup with two new offshoots being developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Picking up from the success of Ahsoka's live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2 played by Rosario Dawson, Ahsoka Tano will follow the former Jedi on a new adventure that takes place after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. Meanwhile, a second, more mysterious, offshoot has also been confirmed to be Rangers of the New Republic, which will more likely be about some of the key characters from the galactic's governing body following the defeat of Emperor Palpatine and his troops. Both shows will tackle separate stories but are set to converge down the road.

As revealed by Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy at Disney's Investor Day presentation, Ahsoka Tano and Rangers of the New Republic will come together in the future. Unfortunately, nothing else was revealed about the crossover at this point, but it's proof that Lucasfilm is also building their interconnected stories on the small screen through Disney+.

Since both shows are set simultaneously during the events of The Mandalorian, it would be fairly easy to find a connection between the show. While it's unclear how this is going to happen since Kennedy didn't reveal any significant plot points for both shows, it's safe to assume that they've been planting narrative seeds in The Mandalorian. For starters, Ahsoka revealed that she's looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn who was last seen at the end of Star Wars Rebels with his ship jumping to hyperspace with Ezra Bridger. Before Ahsoka's live-action debut, she's known to be on a mission with Sabine Wren to locate Ezra, and there's a chance that her pursuit of the Chiss tactician has something to do with this endeavor.

As for the Rangers of the New Republic, The Mandalorian has also hinted at the show with the regular involvement of New Republic X-Wing pilots who function as galactic police officers at this time. Considering that Thrawn was an Imperial officer at one point, albeit only focusing on containing the Ghost Crew in Lothal, chances are that the New Republic will also be interested in hunting him down. He might even be at the top of their wanted list in case he's cooking something else separate from what Moff Gideon is doing alongside other Imperial remnants. Assuming that this is the case, Ahsoka's pursuit of Thrawn can lead him to an encounter with the people of The New Republic. Whatever the specifics are, both Favreau and Filoni's involvement in these shows is more than enough to excite fans.
